Antonio Conte discusses the importance of Spurs clinching Champions League football

By Eddie Razo -

The FIFA international window is behind everyone and now the focus is one the title races or the jockeying for European positions. In the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur are on the doorstep of possibly clinching UEFA Champions League football for next season.

Clinching a top spot for Europe’s top competition will go a long way in helping the project at Spurs. It will allow striker Harry Kane to see they’re heading in the right direction; meanwhile, manager Antonio Conte could use this to justify his request for significant investments.

During Conte’s news conference, the Italian tactician was asked how important a top-four finish is for them as they hope to overtake their north London rivals, who occupy the fourth spot.

“Now after five months I’m seeing a great improvement of my team and I think we have to fight now until the end. We have the possibility to reach this target and it’s important to have this type of ambition and to put pressure on ourselves for this target,” Conte said, per Football.London

“I think to play Champions League next season is important. It’s important for me; it’s important for the club, it’s important for the players, it’s important for the fans, for everybody. Because to play Champions League is totally different to Europa League or Conference League or not playing in UEFA competition. It’s an important target for many reasons, for the club, because for sure you can plan important things.”

Tottenham will welcome Newcastle United this weekend to their home ground. Spurs need the three points to keep the pressure on Arsenal; Newcastle wants to continue creating a buffer between themselves and those in the relegation zone.

Hitchen was also still with us then Gramps. I know nothing about Sarr, maybe he’s a player whoever scouted him .. No expert but I have played amateur and senior football for over ten years and I got my level 1 coaching badge.. What the fcuk have you got fool?

Of course you’re the expert on everything aren’t you?
August 2021 we signed Sarr from the French league and loaned him back. Paratici was with us.
Besides I don’t take any notice of somebody who likes Emerson royal and thinks he’ll be a good RWB lol.

It was Hitchen who was a specialist in the french league.. He’s gone.. It’s Italiano and Paratici now… It was your idol Botch who kept comparing everyone to Messi.. Marcus Edwards and Moussa Dembele (whom he dropped for all our big games)… Keep up Gramps!

I think we have a good chance to make the CL next season- the Conference League that is.

Consistency has always been the enemy of THFC , think the term is “Spursy” , we all hate that but we understand it .
Conte IS a consistent winner , sure with clubs with large finances and historically huge .
Surely Spurs fall into the category of these clubs , the periphery around the seemingly bigger sides , but PSG are really only recent members of that elite group whilst Barca’s star looks as though its slipping , if only temporarily .
We were also invited to be founder members of the ill-fated Super league , that was flattering you must admit . But it was also an acknowledgement of how far we have come , and completely the right decision [ especially from the fans ] to give it the elbow .
I think we have enough about us to secure 4th , it would be fantastic obviously , and in Conte I trust . He “feels” like a Champions League manager , he has the pedigree already , and like he says loud and often
you just gotta BELIEVE !!

He’ll of had Levy whining in his ear about it from day 1 for sure. Of course solely being interested in the extra funds that competition provides for Levy’s investment portfolio, with maybe a few pennies left over for some spotty faced youth from the French league who the club dinner lady says will be the next Messi.
Truth is following the debacle of the Conference league I’m not sure we deserve CL, it could get embarrassing unless we make one hell of a lot of good signings. We could become the whipping boys in the group.
