Spurs are languishing in 10th place in the Premier League and Ange Postecoglou is coming under increasing scrutiny.
The Lilywhites haven’t drawn a game since the opening day of the season, instead veering between brilliant and blundering.
Heading into the latest international break, Spurs have lost three of their last five matches, including their last two against Galatasaray and Ipswich Town.
While questions will obviously be raised regarding Spurs’ on-field performances, Postecoglou’s demeanour with the media has also been put under the microscope.
“He (Postecoglou) must be totally different on the training ground than he is as an interviewee,” former England, Everton and West Ham boss Sam Allardyce said just this week.
“You know, there’s a certain level you have to be pretty good at, otherwise people start questioning you.
“He might be the best coach or manager in the world, but people will question you because his interviews are not very good.”
Ange Postecoglou: The Australian Ted Lasso?
Postecoglou’s interviews can make for interesting readings but there’s no doubt he can often come across as quite brash.
However, commentator Sam Matterface has a wild theory that Postecoglou’s combative stance with reporters is down to him not wanting to be seen as ‘Jesse Marsch 2’ or the ‘Australian Ted Lasso’.
“What I’ve been told is, is that he’s so desperate not to be seen as sort of an Australian caricature,” Matterface told talkSPORT (via TBR).
“He doesn’t want to be Jesse Marsch 2, he doesn’t want people to throw the sort of Australian Ted Lasso thing at him.
“So he tries to sort of not be the playful, happy character and tries to be serious, that’s what I’ve been told.
“It doesn’t come across very well. And Mark Scott of Match of the Day has had two rather difficult exchanges with him in a couple of weeks. I know Crook and I have both had interesting exchanges with him as well over the last year.”
