Sam Allardyce has highlighted one area of improvement for Ange Postecoglou if he is to survive as Tottenham Hotspur manager.
Postecoglou has divided opinion since joining Spurs ahead of last season.
The Lilywhites certainly play a more exciting brand of attacking football, while there is a clutch of exciting young players breaking out under Postecoglou’s leadership.
However, defensive mishaps and inexplicable losses have become a feature of his time in charge so far.
Since the start of October alone, Spurs have fallen to Premier League defeats against Brighton, Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town; the former despite leading 2-0 at half-time and the latter at home.
Allardyce picks up on strange Ange Postecoglou habit
But it’s not on the pitch where Allardyce believes Postecoglou must improve.
Instead, the former England, West Ham and Everton manager believes his Australian counterpart must work on the way he addresses the media.
Allardyce has picked up on a strange habit Postecoglou has when speaking to reporters.
“He (Postecoglou) must be totally different on the training ground than he is as an interviewee,” Allardyce told the Seaman Says Podcast, sponsored by Betway.
“You know, there’s a certain level you have to be pretty good at, otherwise people start questioning you.
“He might be the best coach or manager in the world, but people will question you because his interviews are not very good.”
This, of course, isn’t the first time Allardyce has taken aim at Postecoglou’s media persona.
He said in September: “I wish he would cheer up by the way. When he comes on for the media. He puts his head down and he hardly looks. I wish he would show a bit more of his personality because he does have a personality with his players.”
