Ange Postecoglou insists he’s the man to blame for Tottenham’s shock defeat at home to Ipswich Town on Sunday.
The Lilywhites went down 2-1 at home to the Tractor Boys, with Rodrigo Bentancur’s header not enough to overturn first-half strikes from Sam Szmodics and Liam Delap.
Had they won, Spurs would have climbed to third in the Premier League, just behind leaders Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City. However, the defeat — Ipswich’s first top-flight win since April 2002 — leaves them 10th and only in the top half thanks to their superior goal difference over Brentford.
Spurs have lost back-to-back matches after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Turkish giants Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday. Meanwhile, the North Londoners have lost three of their last five Premier League outings.
Ange Postecoglou reacts to latest Spurs defeat
Boos rained down from the stands at full-time on Sunday and Postecoglou will be feeling the pressure after another disappointing result.
But rather than blame his players, the Australian believes the responsibility for this latest setback lies with him.
“Hugely disappointing. We started slow and passively. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. Second half we had chances but didn’t do enough to win the game,” Postecoglou told BBC Sport after the match.
“It’s just down to me. I’m not getting consistent performances from the players. It’s something I need to address. I’m the person in charge so that’s usually the way it goes. I take responsibility.
“We can’t give ourselves those kind of mountains to climb.”
It doesn’t get any easier for Spurs, who travel to Manchester City in their next match following the international break.
After that, it’s Roma at home in the Europa League before a London derby against Fulham.
