Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one of the top players in the Premier League this season, but when the Dane was signed by Tottenham, he wasn’t one of the most heralded signings of the summer.
He had told Southampton that he wanted to move and although Spurs had Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele, Jose Mourinho wanted the former Bayern Munich man and got him.
While the return of Gareth Bale and the signing of Matt Doherty were talked about greatly in the media, not many seemed to consider Hojbjerg to be a massive signing.
The Danish midfielder has, however, been one of the key reasons why Spurs have been flying this season.
He came into a Tottenham side that already has some of the best midfielders in the Premier League, but his stats have now beaten every one of his teammates.
He has played in all of Spurs 9 Premier League games this season, and he is one of the reasons why they are a leading side.
Mail Sport has just revealed some of the stats behind his performances and they are amazing to see.
Hojbjerg has made 29 tackles in the Premier League this season, 17 more than Sissoko who comes second.
He has made 64 recoveries this season, 29 more than the second Spurs player, Sissoko as well.
Despite playing in front of the defence, he has also provided one assist, which is the joint highest among Spurs midfielders this season.
He is also the club’s pass master, having made 695 passes, the next midfielder is Ndombele who has made just 281 passes.
