All the signs are there that Tottenham can agree swap deal with Premier League club that works for everyone

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham, like so many teams, has been affected greatly by the coronavirus pandemic that has ravaged the world.

The Lilywhites had furloughed their staff earlier in the outbreak before changing their minds (The Guardian).

They have, however, borrowed some money (BBC) to cushion the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and these all points to a summer that would see their spending limited.

Nevertheless, Jose Mourinho always wins a trophy in his second season and the Portuguese manager will want to maintain that reputation at Tottenham.

Winning trophies will also mean he would need to add some new names to his teams.

One player that has been linked with a move to Tottenham (Telegraph) in recent weeks is former Southampton captain, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The midfielder still plays for the Saints, but he has been stripped of the captain’s armband (BBC) after telling them he wants to leave in the summer.

Southampton might want a huge fee for him if its cash alone, but there is a possibility that they would agree to a swap deal with Spurs.

Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters has been on-loan with the Saints since the turn of the year and he is beginning to impress there (Football London).

He played the full 90 minutes in their last game and impressed as the Saints beat Watford 3-1.

If he continues to do well, Tottenham might use him as a sweetener in the move for Hojbjerg.

The Saints probably know that they are unlikely to get the full valuation for Hojbjerg because of the financial limitations on most clubs and a swap deal with some cash thrown in may well be the only way that they can get maximise the sale of Hojbjerg.

What’s Walker – Peters worth? Not a lot in my opinion, he’s totally unproven at this level. If we think we can do a £6 million and Josh Onomah on Southampton then we’ll lose Hojbjerg to somebody like Everton who’ll say there you are there’s your £30 million in one lump and not spread over ten years.
