Alasdair Gold’s Latest Revelation Will Give Many Fans Serious Food For Thought

By The Boy -

There has been what I would describe as a white noise of anti-Mourinho sentiment from social media that is frankly impossible to negotiate, simply because of its bluntness. The “he’s the one £15million, so he should be able to make it work” argument is similar to the argument for paywalls. Any business model with ‘should’ or ‘ought’ at the heart of it is most often doomed. Less of a model, more of a crusade.

The inarguable fact that we watched a lot of football – a lot like this – under the last guy towards the end of his tenure, and that this squad remains heavily laced with the same players.

Instead of throwing money at obvious danger-areas in the squad, ENIC opted instead to make a Hollywood signing that costs the club £320,000 a week, plus a smattering of mid-price/budget deals (some of which have been good, some of which have been less good).

If Mourinho denies instructing the team to play in a stifled manner, and during games, his technical area is bellowing attack-minded encouragement as per the Football London report, and still the players are subdued, do we have a better argument than “he’s lost the dressing room!”? I believe we do and here we go again looking at an ageing squad that has in many instances, run its natural course.

Organisational Culture, mission, objectives and all that malarkey starts at the top. Fans can scream and shout all they want at Jose, Doherty, Dier or whoever is flavour of the week but these are merely symptoms of the malfunction that has existed right through the club for the last 20 years. The cause of course is commander in chief Daniel Stambouli, Fazio, Jensen, Chiriches, N’Jie, N’Kudou, Doherty, Vinicius, Kaboul, Nelson Levy. I could go on. After 20 years the football side of things is by and large still a mess. Levy operates in a world of knee jerk mend and make do signings rather putting in place a proper player recruitment strategy. Just look at the number of players we have missed out on and amount of garbage he has signed.

It will never change while Levy is at the helm because he is a control freak. Envious glances have been thrown at the much vaunted recruitment ticket at Leicester. They would never work for Levy because they know they won’t be allowed get on with it. Paul Mitchell was gone before you could say James Maddison because of Levy’s micro-managing.

Any chairman who cared about the football club would have done more to capitalise on the Euro millions jackpot that is Harry Kane – a once in 3 lifetimes world class striker who loves the club and cost us nothing. Instead it looks like him and Son will have to find pastures new if they want to end their careers with something to show for it. Aside from the tragedy of it all, it is gross negligence and in any other walk of life you would be fired for incompetence. Instead he is the highest paid chairman in football who has delivered one league cup in 20 years and turned a cash reserve of £360 odd million into a £1 billion debt..

Only at Spurs

It’s hard to know if Spurs are two quality centre backs, a competent right back, a creative midfielder and another defensive midfielder to cover Hojbjerg away from being a top four team.

Or if the rot is so deep in this squad and the money needed to rectify things unavailable, that all hope should be abandoned and console myself with the thought that things could be worse, I could be a Newcastle United supporter.

Perhaps if they used our ‘World Class Training Facilitates’ before match day it might save the management needing Strepsils at half time?! 🤔
