The Board Can’t Win With Spurs Fans’ Transfer Philosophy|opinion

If it’s a player they want…the club is too cheap to buy him. And if it’s a player they don’t want…don’t worry, Covid-19, bro.

This is the new philosophy of Tottenham fans when it comes to transfer links, and it’s brilliant because it’s so typical of our collective defeatism.

Kurt Zouma? – ‘Thank God we don’t have any money this summer’*.

Ruben Neves? – ‘Daniel Levy would never cough up the money. ENIC out’*.

*Both paraphrases of the general opinion.

The notion here is basically that there are no solutions out there for us at all. That of all the thousands of professional footballers out there, there isn’t one that is both affordable and good enough to improve the team.

The board cannot win. They would get hounded for not buying anyone and hounded for buying players that we can actually afford. If they somehow found the money to bring in one or two top-class players, in a global financial crisis, fans would complain it should have happened years ago.

Yeah man, even if we had still won nothing, if the board had backed redknapp or poch then i would have been happy.

Bring in Aarons and the hard case from Stains FC and I will be happy. If only we had a billionaire owner who could loan the club a few million for players.

The board cannot win, seriously? Wow. You do know how they have systematically shafted the fans year on year don’t you? If backed, it is more than plausible that we could have won every trophy on offer since Redknapp took over. Even Liverpool, City, Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal fans want new, quality players each year. Nothing wrong with that. If we had won a few trophies and the board were getting criticised, then you may have had a point.

Sign haaland, joshua kimmich, alex sandro, then either witzel or frankie de jong then we would be balling… No complaints from me. Few hundred million for them though so never happening…. Any player who actually tries and has a winning mentality pleases me personally. Any player with a big heart and warrior/soldier mindset.

That’s because this should have happened years ago. If so, we might have caught Leicester!! And if you want a lesson in how to support your manager, just look at Liverpool over the last couple of years. What has that got them, eh?

😆 totally agree mate.. I must say that Harry Hotspur has been calling out Levy on here for a decade now. Maybe a bit longer even. There aren’t many big fans of ‘uncle daniel’ on here bloggers and posters alike.. I’m sure joe is no big fan of levy either…. Our transfer and scouting is a wierd mix of some success and loads of fails. Under baldy we have signed the likes of bale modric dele son etc sometimes shrewd and clever….. Then the rest like jansen, ndombele leaves us all scratching our heads.

Aw diddems! Are the nasty fans picking on your Uncle Daniel? Well, he shouldn’t be such a cheapskate, should he? The club, under Daniel Levy has always been “too cheap” to buy quality and the fans are fed up with the excuses as to why they didn’t get yet another superstar they never had any intention of getting, where it was cheaper to pay a PR firm to plant red herring stories instead.

And then there are the bargain bucket players they genuinely go after who turn out to be bargain bucket for a reason. And all because we are a small club, a Burnley if you will, that just can’t “afford” to do anything else.

Do me a favour.

The ’defeatism’ is based around Levy and ENIC’s track record, the fans know the way it works now. Never kicking on when we have the makings of a decent squad, hiring and firing managers, not replacing key players that leave either quick enough or with the prerequisite quality or experience required (Trippier & Demble the two most notable recent examples).

ENIC OUT.

Just fans being realistic, 99.99 per cent of these “Spurs are linked with” names are never going to happen. We’re net spenders, we have to put up with it, but we’re in good company. I was listening to 5Lives European football segment and Guillem Balague said Barcelona are now being run on a net spend basis. They want Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan and Miralem Pjanic of Juventus but are trying to swap players for them as they don’t have the money to pay upfront. They are running into the usual problem of the players they want to swap, Arthur, Rakitic don’t want to move.

I agree up to a point. But I don’t think there would be many complaints if we brought in a player or 2 of high quality.

It’s almost as if most of our fans think we’re the only club that will be affected! There will be many teams desperate to sell their players. We won’t be one of them.
