Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester City winger Savinho is Tottenham’s primary left-wing target this summer, with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo second in the queue – and Rafael Leao firmly off the table.
Romano took to social media to clarify Spurs’ position after weeks of noise around several attacking names. According to Spurs Web, the Italian journalist describes Savinho as target number one, two and three – effectively meaning the 21-year-old Brazilian is the club’s clear first choice, with the ranking a reflection of how dominant that preference is rather than a list of three separate names.

Gakpo does feature as a genuine alternative, but Romano notes that Liverpool have not opened the door to his departure. Whether that changes as the window progresses is another matter entirely.
Leao offered, not wanted
The Leao situation is worth unpicking briefly, because the reports connecting him to Spurs had gathered some momentum. Romano’s view is that Leao was offered to Tottenham rather than actively pursued by them – and that as of now, the club are not interested. Romano also states he is not aware of any negotiations between Spurs and Leao’s agents or AC Milan, which puts a fair amount of the earlier reporting in its proper context.

That Spurs have already spent in the region of £237 million this summer and are still shopping for wide attackers will not surprise anyone who has watched this window unfold. The left side of the attack remains an identified priority, and the club’s appetite clearly has not been satisfied by the business already done.
What comes next
Savinho is the preferred solution. Whether Manchester City are willing to sell, and at what price, remains the central obstacle – Romano does not detail the state of any negotiations with City in this report. Gakpo represents the fallback, assuming Liverpool can be persuaded, which currently looks like a harder ask than the Savinho route.
It is a familiar Spurs dynamic: a clear target, real intent, and a wall of complications between here and a deal. Both pursuits will be worth watching closely as July progresses.
