Tottenham Hotspur only made one addition to their midfield by purchasing Pape Matar Sarr from FC Metz over the summer. However, the north London-based club does plan to address the position.
Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici plans to pursue a player that he’s familiar with from his days in Serie A. Tottenham is one of several clubs eyeing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié whose contract with the Italian club expires next summer.
Thus far, Kessié and Milan have yet to agree on a contract extension, and with the January window fast approaching, they’ll need to decide whether to sell him or risk losing him on a free transfer.
Football Italia spoke with Calciomercato.com correspondent Daniele Longo, who provided the latest on Kessié.
Longo stated that the 24-year-old might not leave during the winter window but does say that he doesn’t see him extending his contract with Milan considering the clubs that have expressed interest in Kessié.
“As far as we know, there isn’t a chance to see Kessié leave in January. However, there are 75-percent chance he won’t extend his contract with Milan, so he would leave the club as a free agent in the summer. Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United, and Tottenham are all ready to secure his service at the end of the season,” Longo said.
