25-year-old didn’t leave Tottenham because he has impressed Nuno Santo

By Bruce Grove -

Harry Winks didn’t leave Tottenham in this transfer window because he has impressed Nuno Espirito Santo and has been offered another lifeline by the Portuguese manager.

The midfielder was one of the players who lost their place in the Tottenham team under Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager didn’t think the England international fitted into his plans and sidelined him alongside the likes of Dele Alli.

However, the 25-year-old has now impressed Nuno Espirito Santo enough to earn his place back in the Tottenham squad.

The Sun claims he is now one of the players that Nuno Santo will bank on to help Spurs in this campaign.

He played in both Tottenham Europa Conference League matches against Pacos de Ferreira last month and might be used in more cup games in this campaign.

Winks will hope to play enough games so that he can earn a recall to the England national team.

He missed out on Euro 2020 because of his limited playing time and will hope to be in the squad for the FIFA World Cup next year.

Spurs have made a brilliant start to this campaign and they head into the international break at the top of the Premier League table.

They will hope to continue winning matches when their stars return from the break.

If he can get back to the player he was that night against Madrid then he can become a fantastic player for us. Somethings happened that since that night he’s retracted into his shell.

To be fair to all the players, the Mourinho effect must have filled their heads with nonsense, include the drop in fitness levels compared to what they were previously used to with Poch… Its no wonder the new manager has been a breath of fresh air to most of these players ( except Ndombele ) – Winks has talent, there is no doubt about that but how best to uitilise it is the key. Hopefully Nuno sees something that we don’t and has a plan for Winks on how to move to the next level.

I’ll wait for the slating & negativity but if NES is impressed with him & sees him fitting in, I do believe we as (‘non-uefa ‘A’ licenced, premier league manager/coach’) critics should give him the chance to show it.
Obviously NES hasn’t solely based this on the 2 U.Con matches alone, he sees him every day, in & out of training, etc.
So benefit of any doubt should surely be given, same as the transformation NES has clearly made in Sanchez, Dier, Alli, etc?
& no matter what anyone thinks of some THFC players, they’re ALL far better than any of us, aren’t they?

No doubt there are many players relieved to have a new manager in place following their less than positive experience under Mourinho last season. I think they realise that this is their chance to get back to their previous level of form before then, Winks though doesn’t cut it for me, if an offer came I would have sold and that would be the same for Dier too.

Needs to learn how to kick it to someone in the same shirt as him who also happens to be further than 5 yards away.
