Former Arsenal man, Paul Merson has suggested that Manchester United should make a move for Harry Kane instead of spending £100 million on Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho as they are currently planning to do.
The Red Devils are looking to bring back the former Manchester City winger who has emerged as one of Europe’s top talents since he moved to the German side in 2017.
He has continued to develop his career at the German side and Manchester United feel that this is the right time to make a move for him and bring him back to England.
They have yet to make an official bid for him, although Dortmund has set an asking price of at least £100 million for his signature.
Merson has watched as the saga unfolds and he writes on Star Sports that it made no sense for the Red Devils to be planning to spend that money on a winger because they have several players in that position.
He suggested that they should instead use that money to buy Kane from Tottenham.
He writes: They’ve got Mason Greenwood, who’s going to be a star. Marcus Rashford is only going to get better and better.
“But while Anthony Martial lets nobody down, I think they need an out and out centre forward.
“With Sancho, where is everyone going to play? Do they leave Greenwood out?
“I just think with £100m, why don’t you go and get Kane from Tottenham?
“Over 38 games, Harry Kane will score more goals for you than Sancho. I think they have a chance of winning the Premier League if he goes there.
“Would he go? You’d have to ask serious questions of him if he didn’t!”
Where to start with this nonsense? Well, £100 million is simply not enough to sign Kane is as good as any place to start.
In what world is Sancho valued at the same price as Kane, maybe in a few years he will be, but not now, no where near it.
Also, the assumption that United will do better than Spurs next season is just that, an assumption, they are not much better placed than Tottenham to challenge the likes of Man City or Liverpool.
Once the Coronavirus is over with Tottenham will be able to challenge financially with any of the top clubs in the world, they have as good a squad as United and a far better manager.
£100 million for Kane, Merson is on one.

It’s how a football team should be run, ie not just a front for property investment…
There are 2 valuations: Kane’s market valuation and Levy’s valuation!
IMO a bid of £200m will probably secure a deal.
He has but he responded well to Flick unlike Novacs and is enjoying a new lease of life. But he is aging and will only have a certain time left at the top.Has been a great player.
I wonder what Harry’s price would be.
I will have a stab at £180m and that anything under £120m gets laughed at but as I say that’s my guess.
Turned on at 1-4 so thought I would watch the rest.
Never forgiven them (insert word Jose uses) for kicking us off the park way back.
Shame Gnarly plays for the Germans he still plays the old Arsenal card
Can play yes. I’ll never forget that guy. He made the south stand cry.
True, except that Muller seems to have been around for ever!!!
You have to feel sad for Lewandovski, they suspend the Balon D’Or the year he should have walked it.
Bayern never seem to be in transition, because they recruit so well players slip in and out of the team so easily.
Wait until his son is more involved. What a double act that will be.
A pity he did not join Spurs as just the kind of zippy player we seek!!
Top Striker Gnabry
On 31 August 2016, Gnabry signed for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen for a reported transfer fee of £5 million. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger had wanted to extend Gnabry’s contract at Arsenal before his move, but a lack of first-team opportunities meant that the midfielder sought a move elsewhere.
On 11 June 2017, Bayern Munich announced the signing of Gnabry on a three-year deal for €8 million after activating a clause in his contract with Werder Bremen. He was then loaned out to Hoffenheim before making his debut for Baynern in 2018-19 season. The rest is history as they say!

I was never aware of him much at the time nor aware of how much they paid for him but buying Gnabry from Arsenal has proved to be an excellent buy!
Merson you knob, £100m would only buy half of Kane. Not very good at predicting anything are you? LOL
Barca bashed😂 the 8 hasn’t eased the pain of the 7.
Paul + Merson = why?
We have a Levy, but there is only one!!!!! 😂
Dunno, ask Levy. More debt? 😂
Forget “transition”. Whats the end game???
Like I say, we have been a side in transition since the final whistle in Madrid…
Whilst prolific Lewandowski takes all the plaudits credit goes to that wise head Muller!
We also have a Fernandes but sadly not that one!!!!!
We have a Davies but sadly not that one!!!!!!!!!!
No discourtesy intended but you mentioning the word transition drives me to utter distraction!!
Having just watched the BM goals lets focus on both their quality full backs we are searching for in Davies and Kimmich!
Bayern have been the best side in the world this season, our defeat to them was a low point under Poch but after many highs for five seasons.
That defeat now looks slightly less embarrassing given that we were in transition and how good Bayern actually are. Cited by some as a key reason to sack Poch, perhaps some greater perspective is needed?

That Barcelona team contained at one time three players who each cost over €100 million, Coutinho, Dembele, Griezemann, and have the highest wage bill in world football, sometimes the money comes too easy,
Not seen them perform where Atalanta are the surprised package this campaign.
The constant pressing, runners off the ball and fluidity of BM play plus execution in the final third is a joy to watch.
Having had our moments in the first half against BM we also capitulated quickly outclassed by a superb outfit who would do justice to gracing our stadium we can only dream about!!
They had no defence, and gave up second half.
Never mind best striker in UK whom arguably is Salah.
Surely the best world striker is vintage Lewandoswki backed up by Mueller, Coemen. Gnabri, Davies, Thiago etc Sensational!
Too reliant on the magician sad end of en era for Barcelona rudderless without the promptings of their super ex Captain plus Xavi and Iniesta.
Putting our own crushing defeat in some perspective late to the show to discover Bayern Munich had thrashed Barcelona 8-2!!!!
Paul Merson is just jealous the best striker in the UK plays for Spurs.
