‘Worst player to play for Tottenham in my lifetime’ – Journalist rips into ‘dreadful’ Spurs man

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has come under fire by journalist Josh Bunting for his part in the Spurs’ defeat vs Newcastle.

Spurs had a day to forget in front of their own fans this weekend, as they were defeated 2-1 by Newcastle United in the Premier League.

This was their second consecutive defeat, having lost 2-0 to Manchester United in mid-week.

Goals from Wilson and Almiron were enough for the Magpies to beat Antonio Conte’s men despite Harry Kane pulling one back late in the second half.

BBC pundit Garth Crooks singled out Hugo Lloris for his mistakes claiming that Spurs will never win a trophy as long as he’s in the goal for them.

Another player that came under heavy criticism is Emerson Royal. After the match, journalist Josh Bunting tweeted:

“Emerson Royal just isn’t good enough at all, he’s not Premier League quality whatsoever. Dreadful performance again today, decision making and just general football intelligence is simply dreadful. Maybe the worst player to play for Tottenham in my lifetime and I mean that.”

The Brazilian has been in horrific form this season. And despite Doherty doing a decent job during his suspension, Conte put him straight back in the team.

He lost the ball 16 times vs Newcastle, only Eric Dier lost it more than him; managed only one tackle all game and was poor going forward failing to complete any of his crosses. [SofaScore]

This makes Conte’s decision to start him over Doherty even more questionable.
