What Are The Odds Of The ‘Croatian 3’ Being Match Fit For Chelsea On Sunday [video]

By The Boy -

Nuno Espírito Santo’s press conferences have become increasingly awkward. His first words to the club’s microphone-wallah were that he was ‘worried’ immediately after the Rennes match, and the last part of Nuno’s interviews are the most fascinating yet.

Embargoed until later in the day, we have the reality that the Croatia 3 – of Giovani Lo Celso, Davinson Sanchez, and Cristian Romero will only be flying into London today, and will then join the rest of the Tottenham Group this afternoon.

During their COVI-19 Confinement, the trio has been with a club physio and a sports scientist. What are the odds of this merry troupe being match fit? I’d suggest it is highly unlikely any of them have 90 minutes in them.

other than a few long haul flights they have been training right? Of course they wont have done any team talks or tactical work, but as for physical fitness, 10 days in Croatia with nothing else to do but train I dont see why they wouldnt be fit.

Sanchez might get in but neither Romero or LoCelso would have played anyway…

We have a number of players who can play for the full 90. We have no influencers we lack passion and creativity. Most of our players I’m sad to say. Are stealing a living

“Can Lo Celso play 90 minutes after coming back from Croatia?”

Well he couldn’t play 90 even when training with Spurs, so I doubt it.

Really getting sick and tired of all this. Whatever fragile momentum we did have on the back of those three wins dissipated completely over the international break due to injuries and sheer stupidity of Lo Celso, Romero and Sanchez. Now we clearly see that our “second string” isn’t even average – it’s actually a side that gets done 3-0 VS Palace. Palace!

Worried about Chelsea. Even in the friendly – when they had Kanté on, we didn’t get out of our own half for 45 minutes. I don’t suppose they’ll let us play the ballboys in the second half again?

On a sidenote, I got to see Leeds-Newcastle yesterday. What a match! Especially the first half was stellar and full of positive attacking football, with players sprinting up and down the pitch. Even bloody Newcastle can play a bit (Saint-Maximin is a huge part of that). Leeds should have scored 4 but ended up paying the price.

But all in all, a very refreshing game which reminded me of what football can be. And I didn’t have to watch Liverpool or City to get that feeling.

Wasn’t Clark bought the same window we passed on Grealish?

Romero would get into any 11 in the prem actually. But he ain’t ready for that game and yes we haven’t got any creativity apart from the kid Gil. And he’s not ready either unfortunately. Boring innit 😴

Sess and Clark what a utter waste of dough ,utter stupidity by all involved.

Do we really think the COVID 3 are going to make that much difference against Chelsea? I mean, they wouldn’t get in most first 11’s.

We lack creativity, that’s the biggest problem followed quickly by a lack of cover for an un-interested Kane. Add a manager out of his depth and caught in the headlights and here we are. Another season they we step backwards

Not sure N’dombele will work out, seems he just wants to go, hasn’t got the discipline to get fit, but here’s hoping Lo Celso comes good as he seems a good player but it’s anyone’s guess….Sess looks pointless and will end up being sold for half the price, as will Clark probably – 40m wasted…

Lo Celso only seems to play well for his country. Seems underwhelming for us, he needs some of Lamela’s effort transplanted into him. Romero and Sanchez more important.
N’dombele has the potential to be out best midfielder by a mile. He’s the one I’ll be watching, can be a matchwinner.

Im not sure it makes any difference tbh.., lo celso even if declared fit will not last 90 minutes, 45 mins is probably his max..at a stretch, Sanchez is a possibility & Romero no chance… if our cb pairing 2mo is Davies & Rondon can we just concede a 2-0 defeat without actually playing…😂. Winks is not very good at anything, yet will probably start due to there being no one else available and Tanguy at best has no more than 55 mins in his legs… short answer is we’d probably lose to chelsea reserves 2mo…

The trouble is pessimism all around with their owners, because never really had a happy outcome won a trophy or two. Nothing ever seems to come to fruition.

Sure, but it didn’t take Son four years to find his groove, and hopefully it won’t take our latest signings that long either. I don’t doubt Son played poorly for Harry to deliver that verdict, but I do wonder if perhaps we’re sometimes guilty of rushing to judge players based on only a handful of performances.

Personally as well, I feel that Poch was as much a coach as a manager for us a day those player’s ages fitted well with that. Many of them flourished under Poch. I mean he even got Lambert an England call up when he was at Saints! This kind of masked the fact that we were still short on real quality.

This is why I’ve never been able to fathom as to why Levy thought not backing Poch was the right way to go. We were overachieving given the spend and the profile of player we had.

The players got older and stopped improving so the only fix was a churn of younger players to keep freshening up the development cycle, or buying established quality. The latter was never gonna happen.

Although we were not playing particularly well for the last 12 months or so of Poch’s time, there are clear factors out of his control that led to that.

Overall, when we look back at how this club is run, then the Poch setup was the best scenario you’ll get under ENIC. Hiring Jose was utterly pointless because Levy won’t work his ‘way’. Which leaves me slightly perplexed as to the nature of their discussions before Jose even took the job. He did greatly sing the squad’s praises when he took over, so for someone so experienced there can be little sympathy. Especially if he was being dishonest to get hired, who knows…

Anyway, as many of us predicted, things have not gone well since Poch was let go, that’s the overall conclusion one must draw from all this. An un-backed Poch or a sacked Poch, both have seen us go backwards…

Levy’s 1-in-10 hit rate is getting worse and our team is digressing rapidly..Son was a punt and took time for him but it worked out…not so many more have and it seems most players being replaced are no better than the previous ones…Eriksen & Modric vs Winks & Skipp…..

When, in four years time? You could argue that the point that he was making was that the player was not ready to perform for Spurs at high-level at the time. I think the point you might be missing is that we continually buy these players go on to develop by which time we’ve sold our established players and the cycle continues without ever keeping a quality squad together.

So at the time he probably was lightweight and he probably wasn’t good enough, he is now but look at the state of the rest of the team. You can only usage players in the present, so what if these signings turn out to be ok? Same old problems I’m afraid, regardless…

So, after reading this, my eyes drifted to the column on the right and I clicked on a post from five years ago called “An Acerbic Analysis”. This is what you said about Son:

”In short he is a lightweight. Heart in the right place, yada yada yada, but he’s the sort of guy who will only ever look good against lesser opposition.

“The truth here is that we’ve bought a lemon. He’s not the required standard for a top four Premier League side and he certainly isn’t fit for Champions League football.”

I wonder if any of this summer’s signings will also go on to prove you wrong?
