“What a jerk” “So many dreadful calls” A Good Many Fans Struggling With Gary Neville’s Peculiar Comments

By The Boy -

Gary Neville’s punditry deteriorated into at best into fantasy last night as he berated Davinson Sanchez who, believe it or not, didn’t have a complete howler of a game. Mind you, we live in troubling times. Tottenham’s backline hasn’t been truly settled since Kyle Walker left. Oh, and that’s a fact. Not opinion.

Judging by the analysis yardstick employed by some, Sanchez is dreadful, yet Gareth Bale is still worth a nice run of games to recapture his form, despite 6 months of floating about Hotspur Way like the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Here’s the video, apologies for the cut on the tape – but you can clearly hear Neville begin his “I am bemused by him. What is he doing? He is so rash! Stay on your feet.” line.

The former Manchester United man’s words do not match the action is he describing. That is the really troubling issue, I mean, surely a pundit’s commentary needs to be appropriate to what we’re all watching?

I take a view that so many commentary gurus are now past their best by date. ‘And we’re live!’ and much more all needs a big freshen up.

Maybe, but just look at the defenders the England national team used to be able to call on in the ’90s and early ’00s.

Now look at Harry Maguire etc

He loves our Daniel as well because he owns his own club but doesn’t see Levy has no football ambition, they only see the money he makes….Sanchez has played well in the last few games, put him with Rodney and Toby and when the team press and leave our back line less exposed that might help him be more composed…

I mute most games apart from when Glen Hoddle is co commentator.

Alan Smith covering the majority of spurs games on sky? No. Sound down.

Gary Neville was good for a couple of years but his spell managing ended that.

Caragher is incoherent and a rambling mess. Souness, change the record (although he has earnt the right ti be a great miser).

Bin them all. Apart from our H

gary Neville – why !

those who that can’t coach , become involved in media , those who aren’t very good at that become sky pundits/talk radio hosts

Sanchez did ok – he is improving with game time , not having a settled back four doesn’t help any of the defensive unit

Said before blow entire transfer budget on a class leader,defender/ball player to sit beside him/Roden.

He covers a lot in the right channel which always surprises me that our back four shape gets pulled around so much . Some of the fouls he gave away were in ‘non dangerous’ areas and a sign of trying to much to win the ball.

Well done for trying .

In fairness to some, the ever-changing laws make defending increasingly more difficult. Too much in favor of the attacker these days imho. Defending is an art that is an essential part of the game.

Listening to the commentary you’d have thought the spurs goal was under siege but they threw up a stat near half time that Villa had zero attempts to Spurs’ five.

Seems pointless to critique pundits. They’re all biased and most know less than blokes on here. I’m all in for ignoring that shit and focusing on game analysis itself than gossip. I really like the tactical pieces H fwiw.

Sanchez got caught out a few times but the average quality of defender in the Premier League has gone down in recent years – maybe one of the reasons out defensive record actually reads ok on paper this season compared to others.

He’s far from the worst defender you’ll find in the PL currently and what we really need above anything is a more settled back line. Once the defence is more settled can you really see who has the required quality.

Far too many of these ‘jerks’ doing the punditry rounds, my god last night we had to tolerate Carlton Cole, which I couldn’t and turned him off.

He doesn’t like Jose, I don’t think you’ll get anything balanced in that regard from Gaz Neville…
