Tottenham Hotspur has upgraded its left wing-back position following the addition of Ivan Perišić this summer transfer window. Their attention will need to turn to the right side, where they have yet to add a new player but are linked to several targets, including Djed Spence.
Spence has drawn attention from Premier League clubs following his hand in helping Nottingham Forest earn promotion into the Premier League. The 21-year-old was on loan to The Reds from Middlesbrough.
Boro’ gaffer Chris Wilder to The Sun he expects the move to Tottenham to happen. Talks have been underway for some weeks, which whilst frustrating, is also a good sign.
While Tottenham is reportedly discussing a deal for the defender, Sol Bamba feels a move to Spurs would be the best option for Spence to play under manager Antonio Conte during an interview with talkSPORT.
“[Spence] needed a new start. He went to Forest and done so well. The potential is there. It’s unbelievable. Fantastic player. I think, under Conte, in my opinion, I think he will learn a lot. And I think young players need discipline, and I’m sure Conte will give that to him,” Bamba said.
“Going forward is fantastic. But I think the fans, he can improve. And for me, Tottenham would be the best move for him. But you have to give credit to himself. He went on loan and done very well. So he deserves this move.”
The England international made 46 appearances for Nottingham Forest, scoring three goals and recording five assists during the 2021-22 season. When it comes to a transfer fee, Transfermarkt puts Spence’s value at £7 million, so it will be interesting to see if the two sides can agree on a price.
Zaniolo…knee injuries..someone else posted about this ..
Traore is Row Z..
Mr Gold Leb reckons the season after next , which will be when Kane’s contract ends..roll up.
Winky will be a Spurs player next season ..Daniel I’m in Charge Levy will see to it.
No chance ..Lampard is on thin ice and selling Everton fan favourite Gordon won’t wash.
Like to see us go after the Burnley left winger as another homegrown quota filler.
Crosses a nice ball & was probably their best player over the last few years
The most interesting “news” of all is word that ENIC may indeed be looking to sell the club asap as I have posted that the unlocking of the “war chest” is the first step in the endgame.
But sooner than eventually… we get Richarlison and Gordon
Spence is Plan A because of the homegrown quota…if you sign one of those other names you’re kicking that can to another position.
Then you’re buying JWP or Maddison for £70 million just because they’re English.
Or Jesse.
I think both Raphina and Richarlison are decent players, but as you mentioned the valuation of PL players are too often blown out of proportion. Zaniolo is probably a better player and cheaper. Joao Pedro at Watford looks talented, but a punt nonetheless. Honestly I’d prefer scouting to find the next Son, but then I’m reminded of their track record…
I have a feeling Spence is merely plan B, or even C. Traore is still available and we were linked with Lazzari in January.
What bothers me the most is that Bremer isn’t signed yet. The lad is pure quality and on 18k per week. Looks like the Ruben Dias saga all over again.
The Leeds boy is stupid money – he doesn’t score enough goals, and he never has done,
I sense the dead hand of Levy returning to the fray. We started reasonably well in the early days of the window but things have stalled and I suspect that Levy has been unable to resist interfering. I hope that I’m wrong as this will end in tears if true.
On Raphina, the valuation is ludicrous. If Jesus has been sold for circa 45 mill, Leeds will never get that and we won’t pay it anyway. I don’t really care about Spence and he’s not good enough to play first team football anyway and is overpriced.
And with Levy personally overseeing matters, it will now take an additional 60 days
Seems like we are negotiating a contract with a player with no other suitor.
