Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag has admitted that the club would be interested in signing Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old’s contract expires in the summer and, if his recent performances are anything to go by, he is not likely to be offered a new one, ending his eight-year spell with Spurs after joining from Ajax in 2012.

Ajax are a club built on lifelong bonds with their alumni. Legends Edwin van der Sar and Marc Overmars now hold key board positions. Daley Blind, Ryan Babel, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Siem De Jong are current players who are all enjoying their second or third spells with the Dutch giants.
It is possible that Vertonghen could be pulled back in to the Ajax bubble too, according to Ten Hag who told native news outlet Ziggo Sport: “Of course we are following his situation very closely, but you also have to look at the position in which someone plays.
“If that comes together, the availability and the position in which he plays, then he is an option.
“There is no question of any age limit here. If someone is good enough, it doesn’t matter how old he is.”

Vertonghen has suffered a drastic decline in form over the last 12 months with injuries and age catching up with one of the Premier League’s best defenders of the last decade. His reaction to being substituted against Southampton was that of a player who knew his time at the top was up.
Ajax would be the perfect solution for him; a club who are playing in the Champions League who hold equal sentimental value to him as Spurs.
