Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine have been the talk of the town for the last few days. Alfie made an assist in a U21 England game against Austria, and now Scarlett has scored two against Serbia in a 4-0 thumping in the same UEFA U19 Championship competition.
Whilst it is undoubtedly pleasing to see both the lads making their way, it ought to be clear to even the world’s most unworldly fan that both are a long way from being the required standard for the Premier League.
It does look like a friendly. I presumed Serbia were just a bit pants.
Academy and U20 football is a non contact sport – only interested in ball skills – never used to be like that. Thats why they cant adapt to senior football easily
That’s 12 goals in 11 games for Scarlett in the England U19’s! A very promising youngster and the same with Devine, but at only 18 and 17 respectively, it is fair to say it is their physical maturity for the EPL that is currently lacking, rather than the talent and potential to play in the league.
