Watch many of Cuti Romero’s frankly stellar actions against Manchester City

If we home in upon the Argentinian’s passing accuracy, we can see that Cuti was not only highly efficient as a right-back, but acted very much as a safety net for the defensively weak (and offensively inept) Emerson Royal.

This block.

92% against the level of assault we faced against Manchester City is bewilderingly good. No two ways about it.

If we look then to Cuti’s defensive duels, we note equally efficient activity. 67% isn’t in Romero’s personal Premier League high range, but again, I feel no compunction to defend Royal’s burden. Do you?

INTERCEPTIONS
RECOVERIES

11 interceptions and a further 11 recoveries only serve to justify further how good this boy is, against a City side that frequently had 6 men in offensive positions.

More, please…

i hope you know for a fact that Dier was 3rd worst player after Hugo Lloris and Ryan Sessegnon Mr Dier had 0 tackles, 0 interceptions,0 block any of the shots on Spurs goal and lost possession 10 times and a rating of 6.3. please don’t get carried away with the spin and the myth the resurgence of Dier I’m amazed that Eric Dier has become the best player in Spurs team a world beater and a world class that Spurs team will be finished even Kane can’t believe what is he seeing cheers.

Yup, we officially have a player within our ranks, not before time.

5 out of 10?? Is Norcroft living in our reality as that’s just stupid and shows literally zero understanding of the defensive contribution that Romero had in the game. He was superb.

Both played well, dealt with everything aerially. Royal got into some good crossing areas in the first half. Need an upgrade. Sessegnon didn’t contribute much, if anything. It sure would be swell to go on a winning run.

I think the return of Dier was crucial to our performance and result. Both Romero and Dier played as though they could relie on each other, whereas when Sanchez is playing with either they are petrified about what he might do next..Davies also looked more steady too with those two alongside him.

Absolutely. Sanchez is a complete liability and should be sold (and replaced) in the summer before his value drops too much. In recent games I would suggest the reason we lost was primarily Sanchez. His shambolic displays made the rest of the team nervous and affected performances. When you have solid, confident defence it inspires confidence in the rest of the team. It also helped having Bentacur playing instead of Winks in midfield. A definite upgrade. I think we are learning that one or two changes in personnel can have big, positive impacts.

The elephant in the room and the factor that many seem unwilling to acknowledge, was the return of Dier to the back three. Romero was able to play his game far better alongside Dier in the middle. Sanchez keeps doing a headless chicken impression whenever he’s picked…

5 out of 10 for any team’s defenders that go to Citeh and win is nonsensical.

Without doubt a clarse act

Romero is class. But also look at the first video of his 97th minute clearance and watch PEH as the ball is up in the air – he anticipates the only place this is going is long up the left channel and starts making a run into that area way before it is played. That is the kind of football intelligence too many of our other players lack.

Yes, that’s ridiculous.

he is the only choice for the right side of defence. Even better without the responsibility of being the middle of the 3.

Romero was immense, even Carragher said we have a player on our hands but somehow Jonathan Norcroft in The Times saw fit to give him 5 out of 10. I’m not sure what game he was watching
