Walker-Peters Close To Make-Or-Break Move?

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker-Peters is close to joining Crystal Palace on loan for the remainder of the season, according to The Athletic.

Matt Woosnam, the Crystal Palace expert among the star-studded Athletic roster, understands that a six-month deal for Walker-Peters is imminent, with the Eagles determined to patch up a back line destroyed by injuries.

The 22-year-old has always been one season away from a breakthrough at Spurs, but has never convinced enough to be given a long run in the team. He started the season in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI but soon lost his place to Serge Aurier, and has played only once for Jose Mourinho.

A total of 22 senior appearances is alarmingly few for a player of Walker-Peters age, especially when you compare him to other young English right-backs of his generation. This loan – the first of his career – could be the making of him as a Premier League footballer, at or away from Spurs.

KWP’s future at the club has been written off by virtue of him playing understudy to the error machine that is Aurier, but very few people saw anything in Danny Rose before his loan at Sunderland. You never know.

Right-back is on our transfer agenda for January, as Football London details, but it is not a given that KWP’s impending exit will force us into the market, with Juan Foyth capable of offering the same cover for Aurier if required.

A loan is a good move. KWP needs games, and too good to sell. Honestly think he will be a good player next season of he plays regularly at palace.
