Opinion: Sissoko Op Spins Spurs Into Self Inflicted Chaos

By The Boy -

Tottenham Hotspur football club are falling apart at the seams, with the breaking Spurs’ injury news that Moussa Sissoko is going to be out of action for 3 months.

The club site revealed that it was the Frenchman’s medial collateral ligament in his right knee that was the issue.

I have previously referred to our midfield on as a welcome mat. Now the mat has been pinched, and there’s just a Post-It note stuck to the door with “It’s open, let yourself in” scrawled upon it.

Crisis Bingo
Fan reaction has been predictable

Taking stock of the situation draws a depressing conclusion. We’re down to Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama as a defensive midfield pairing. Any other invented combination is actually even worse.

Once José’s blood pressure has stabilized, the Portuguese needs to have a sit down with Levy & Co., and re jig expectations for this season.

Simply buying players is so unlikely a solution in the January window, it doesn’t bear any thought.

Conclusion

In 2019, Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Mous Dembele, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Jan Vertonghen, Serg Aurier, Ben Davies, Erik Lamela, and Dele Alli were all sidelined at one stage or another, with muscle injuries playing a prominent part.

Given Spurs’ continuous neglect in the transfer windows, it was more likely than not that existing players would suffer significant injury.

What else might anyone expect?

No point in posting optimism and ‘faith’ in something that is doomed to failure.

Is it about a match day experience, win or lose? Cheer the failed mess on? That’s like lemmings jumping off the cliff because you’re all stood together in the same place.

You find my moaning tiresome and I understand that, I find blinkered happy clapping nauseating. Especially when you understand and acknowledge that there’s a deep rooted problem.

League placings are more relevant than the domestic cups these days. When we used to win the FA Cup it mattered, Cup final day was like a public holiday, a massive event everyone watched.

Can’t remember the last Cup Final I sat through, as for the League Cup, what’s that now? A nice day out for your fans.

Our league placings under Poch were phenomenal under ENIC on this paltry budget. Nobody else will do it unless Levy spends up, but he won’t…

I don’t dislike poch at all. He gave me loads of pleasure but never gave me a “happy ending 😁 he should’ve won something with his 3rd and 4th season team though. I wish poch very well. What does poch deserve a medal for? You man hyping up a ex manager who won’t be mentioned in our honours history. Oh yeah he will. The SEVEN. Looking up to a past manager while only partly getting behind the new one. For me that is absolute stupidness. Thickry

Joe Lewis is worth 6bn.

Nobody’s expecting us to spend what Utd, City and Liverpool are spending but 7th highest wage bill? 17th highest net spend over 5 seasons?

We’ve had Champions League runs, we signed nobody for a year. There must be something in the kitty but they don’t care. They want to spend as little as possible, irrespective of if they can actually afford to spend more. They just don’t want to…

The saddest part of it is the great progress we made under Poch for several seasons and to watch it rot away to nothing because of ENIC and Levy.

It’s the worst crime they’ve committed against the club so far. We were going somewhere, now we aren’t. What’s the stadium for? Losers?

No evidence that Poch thought he could do it on the cheap, lots of public statements asking for support. So, Levy should trust winning man with big bucks in this window, right? only following your line of thinking.

Andy

Reply to  James McKevitt

That is a simplistic understanding by Levy, it was and is unsustainable to not be improving. If he added a top class player each window we would have been building to the next level. He sold without replacing, always taking a cheap option or a young player to sell when proven.

East Stand

I’m predicting another shameful result at Levy’s NFL temple and more pain for the Spurs faithful. I reckon Liverpool will win about 0-4.

I hope this is the moment ‘ENIC OUT’ ‘Levy out’ and ‘sack the board’ become familiar chants from the stands. This cannot continue with the fans remaining silent.

East Stand
East Stand

When Levy wouldn’t back Poch I knew it was the beginning of the end. Of their relationship, of Champions League football of being proud of the team and the way they played.

I’m enjoying watching the rot set in, not Jose’s fault of course but he’s the wrong man for an impossible job. Boy, he must have been desperate to manage again…

East Stand

Levy.

East Stand
East Stand

So we play Liverpool next, a team we were finishing above during Klopp’s first couple of seasons. We went on to sell Kyle Walker and not sign anyone of any quality for almost 4 seasons.

In the meantime Liverpool sold Coutinho after they’d got Salah settled in, signed Mane and Wynaldum (both players Poch wanted but Wages too high for Levy) and then paid world record fees for A defender and goalie. Strengthened with further signings like Keita and Shaquiri etc.

This is what you do if you’re ambitious and want to compete. Levy will make his excuses but to not even try to back the manager properly is nothing to do with money. It’s not wanting to compete, deliberately.

It’s shameful but Levy isn’t ashamed, he does “what’s right for Spurs” apparently…

Yep, same old rubbish from ENIC. No plan on the pitch, they just look at players as assets and investments. They’re hoping Clarke will be worth 65m in 6 years time and sell him to Utd. That’s all anything is about, they don’t care about football whatsoever…

I admire his spirit, wouldn’t accept any slacking. His aggression is one of the things that has been missing from Spurs team. Too many nice players, too many quiet players, not enough leadership. Somebody passed the Spurs dressing room at an away game about a month ago, after we had lost. They were shocked by what they heard.
Do you know what they heard? Nothing, zilch, nada. Not a cheep. Bunch of losers sitting there feeling sorry for themselves. That’s why they never won anything. If that was the Man United dressing room of Roy Keane, Scholes and Bruce there’d be blue murder. They would have sorted anybody who wasn’t doing their job. Our boys are too nice for that, too sensitive. Bring in Troy and a few more like him.
