Video – Gareth Bale forces LASK OG to extend Tottenham lead

By Bruce Grove -

Does this count as an assist for Gareth Bale? Yes, it does.

The Welsh wizard did all the hard work with a ball into the area that was diverted into the back of the net by LASK’s Andres Andrade.

Sergio Reguilon and Erik Lamela were also involved in the build-up and the way things are going it is highly likely that there will be more Spurs goals before this game is concluded.

Well, unless the unthinkable happens for a second game in a row.

By all accounts Arsenal have acquired a quality signing in Thomas Partey.

All eyes were on Gareth Bale in his first Spurs start since 2013, but it was Carlos Vinicius who stole the show on his debut.

The 25-year-old Brazilian can play alongside Harry Kane in attack and not just be his stand-in, said manager Jose Mourinho afterwards.

“He played well but can do better,” said the Portuguese boss. “Considering the circumstances and that it was his first match, I’m really happy. The only thing that was missing was one goal, but he’s much more than that.

“He’s not selfish and is a good target man. He can play with Kane when his good period arrives and won’t just be the guy to cover him. I am very happy.”

Both beyond redemption for me now. Neither are anywhere near good enough.

Dear on dear BBC tweeter “At 2-0 Spurs aren’t safe after Sunday. I wouldn’t trust them to take my dog out – they can’t hang on to a lead”
