Video Evidence: How Did Steven Bergwijn Really Do Against Villa?

By The Boy -
Steven Bergwijn’s heat map vs Aston Villa

Bergwijn gave us a 30-minute cameo against Aston Villa, which was full of huff and puff, but lacked on technical substance. I could be losing my mind after too many months of house arrest, but Steven looks to me like he’s morphing into a Mighty Mouse shape physically like he’s been working out excessively, and I’m wondering if this is actually helping his movement?

Total successful actions weren’t great, too many of those pesky crosses as Steven only hit 54%.

Steven managed to get this shot-assist away, but in truth, it was a horrible under-hit affair, and it was remarkable that Pierre managed to salvage anything from it all.

Would I rather watch Bergwijn find some form, rather than watch Dele Alli and Gareth Bale flit about to questionable purpose? Damn, right I would. This is a player that needs to develop and so let’s give that a go.

Has Burg Wine ever had a proper run in the side? Let him loose for the rest of the season as much as formations & tactics allow I say; I still like the cut of his jib.

Game time , encouragement (coaching)’ to have a go ‘ will take him to the next level.

i always get the impression he breaks into the final 3rd and his only directive is to find Kane/son .
i like him work rate/pace is great – work on his finishing/take risks – he’ll be a player

We could have said the same thing about Moura, but he’s changed. So I wouldn’t give up on him just yet.

I agree. Remember Raheem Sterling before Pep got hold of him? A bit of coaching might do the trick.

A lot of running and not much else, which is fine, if you’re that kind of player, but when he came here, he seemed a very dangerous proposition in the last third.

Probably just a lack of confidence. Needs a goal to sort that out. Or he should talk to Kane about composure and doing the right thing at the right time.

At the moment it is all about attitude and Bergwijn has the right attitude.

He needs to sort himself out. He looked sharp and with great promise when he first joined but he has been a big disappointment since then. yes, he runs about a lot but to what effect?
