Video Evidence: Has Marcus Edwards Finally Come Of Age?

By The Boy -

Marcus Edwards is a phenomenally well known name to Tottenham fans, despite only having managed to play a handful of minutes in the Lilywhite. Some Spurs fans have a tendency to become over-excited with new prospects, and this certainly appeared to be the case with Edwards who now at the ripe old age of 21 has begun to look like he may finally have got his act together.

These goals and assist show a combination of maturity and ruthlessness that suddenly makes the fact that Spurs could buy the Englishman back from Vitória Guimarães for small beans.

Edwards has a £13.6m release clause in his Vitoria contract and with Levy’s 50% of any sell on fee, that effectively gives us a buy-back option of £6.8m should we ever want to give the England youth international another shot.

Don’t watch that man. The right position with the right players around him he’ll get more, much more. He knows where the goal is Breda. Blinding baller

It was Marcus attitude that was the problem.. I’m still not sure he will make premier league grade. He hasn’t exactly lit up either the portugese or dutch league. And Vince Jansen managed to be top scorer there…. Young Messi scored goals for fun in a tougher league and wasn’t far off ballon dor at that age. Two more years and he won it.. I’m sorry to wet on Tappas parade but there is no comparison with Messi who was world class when he was 21.

Nice goal.. He’s scored 8 in 33 games for them.. Ok but not great. Portugal league is a step down from ours too. He needs more goals and assists before any premier league club goes for him.

If we want him, now is the time to buy him before another club pays the release clause, which although benefitting Sours financially, would stop us buying him cheaply. I never thought he would make the grade in the PL, mainly due to lack of physicality, and character weakness, to a lesser extent, as he was very young, but East Stand makes a good point about the benefits of young players going abroad, so, I suspect that he has grown up. Perhaps Poch was right when he compared him to a young Messi!

I saw him against Woolwich in the Ropey League when he scored against them and he looked a bit stronger and like he was growing up. He needed to get away, I like it when young players go abroad because the reputation they may have had since say 14 years old has to be rebuilt. Credit to him for that and showing his maturity. Not sure he’d be a priority for Jose at this time though.
