Video Evidence: Harry Winks To Blame For Paul Pogba Fiasco

By Joe Fish -

Roy Keane was on one last night. If a Tottenham or Manchester United player put even a toe out of line, they were going to know about it.

One Spurs player in his firing line was Harry Winks, for his role in the penalty which led to United’s equaliser. On face value, Eric Dier might take the blame for allowing Paul Pogba to get around him but Keane thinks that Winks was equally culpable for not supporting his Dier with any cover.

Watch the clip below and see Winks standing still, marking space…

Keane told Sky Sports after the match, quotes relayed by Football London: “Winks has got to be back in there As poor as Dier was, Winks was just watching, he might as well have sat with us. Winks has got to get in there, stop the danger, expect his mate to be beaten.

“He was just strolling, just smell the danger, help your team-mate out.”

I agree with Keane on this – not that I’d dare to say I disagreed with him if I did. Once Dier is beaten he is in an impossible position to recover the ball and Winks must step in to bail him out. It is the type of thing Keane would have done thousands of times in his own career. Keane always talks about being a good team-mate and Winks was too happy to pass on responsibility here.

If it’s about contact what about Pogba grabbing Diers shirt before any other contact . For me he pulled Dier onto him.
Clever blah blah .cheat more like.u

Strong arming a player in the penalty area, that’s clever. Maybe Dier hasn’t noticed but it has got to the stage now where attackers are deliberately seeking contact and referees are giving penalties for such contact. Yes Winks was lazy but there is also a defender waiting for Pogba if he advances. Dier’s defending is shocking, he buys Pogbas dummy to go back infield so easily when he should know Pogba really wants to get to the line and Dier’s job is to show him to the line and stop him crossing without fouling. Awful like someone who hasn’t played in defence for a while.

Ben Davies could be to blame then. Or you can blame Dier because he was the one
who was led a merry dance.
