Video + Analysis: Dele Alli Was Sloppy But Improving Against Fulham

The own goal cannot be derided, they all count, and more to the point, they all come from pressure. I can’t recall a professional game where a player deliberately put the ball in his own net.

Beyond that action, Dele’s overall game was only ‘alright’. The broad brush ‘total successful actions’ ratio was too small. 47%, when even his mean average is 58.7%. Too many black crosses. So that’s sloppy.

Passing accuracy was in the right range at 83%, and offensive duels at 67% are both very pleasing to see.

Is Dele back? The jury is well and truly out.

Is he back?

He played about as well as Bergwijn/Moura/Lamela on an average night…so yes, with this squad that’s about par and he’s sort of back.

Another option, we need him for the run in – he could yet improve. In particular, he scores different sorts of goals to most of our forwards, so that alone could be a defining thing.

Long term he’s still got it all to do.
