Two games that could cost Jose Mourinho his job – it is at that stage now | Opinion

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham have five games left in which to try and salvage their season and each one of those games is obviously very important, however, it can be argued that the next two games for Jose Mourinho could cost him his job at the Tottenham Stadium if results go against him.

Spurs have the opportunity to go above their bitter rivals Arsenal this evening, failure to do that will not go down well at all, not with Chairman Daniel Levy or the fans in my opinion.

It would set the rot in that I doubt very much could be eradicated, it would be Sheffield United all over again and that would be too much to stomach in such a short period of time.

However, Mourinho would still have a get out of jail card in that the North London derby is just a few days away and that could give the Portuguese some breathing space with a win over that mob.

But a loss this evening and on Sunday and the end would be nigh, it is very hard to see how the former Real Madrid manager could come back from that, not in the eyes of either Levy or the fans.

A win in both would see Spurs four points ahead of Arsenal with just three games to go and firmly placed in a Europa League spot (Seventh would likely be enough with Man City winning the League cup and one of the Champions League qualifiers likely to win the FA cup)

If Tottenham finish the season in a European spot and above Arsenal that should satisfy most fans and Levy and buy Mourinho a transfer window but lose to the Cherries and at home to the Gunners and it must surely be the end for the man employed to win silverware.

Now, if Spurs beat Bournemouth and lose to Arsenal it would then depend on the final games of the season because the end result would probably be enough to save Mourinho if, as I have already stated, Spurs finish above Arsenal and in a Europa League spot.

But two loses and it is goodbye Jose, it has to be.

1. Jose is not going to be sacked not at £15m pa
2. Poch had to go he himself knew it he couldn’t get anything out of Levy apart from an upgraded contract.
3.I am vanilla on Jose didnt like his gob elsewhere but he is/was a winner – no agenda I always say ABJ (I would take John Terry if he convinced JM/JL he could kick the lazy fookers *rses and get them winning).
4. Roll on 2050/51 when Levy has gone and you young ‘uns can celebrate the PL title

Poch is a fkn loser. I don’t care what anyone says. I backed him hard when he was here when those who praise him now were coating him off. That’s how wonky some spurs fans are. Oh and fk “ifs” too

Theres no need to mug Poch off though. He’d be flying if he was backed.

Jose’s gonna turn us into a team of b’stards and I cant wait.

I feel very torn over Jose. On paper he’s a nightmare fit for Spurs with his chequebook history, anti-football style and fragile ego. We need a wheeling dealing, tactically astute man-manager who’s a dab hand with the youth. A legit mix of Redknapp and Poch who delivered the best football and happiest years under ENIC. Tactics asside, Jose’s non of this and so far I’ve seen next to zero improvement in our overall play since he arrived. Throw the cheese to his chalk, Levy into the mix, and I can’t shake the cynical notion that he was brought in to headline the Amazon documentary. They’re surely a match made in hell aren’t they?

I’m torn though because despite all this I’m still hoping he’ll succeed somehow. That he’ll turn it around this summer with two or three needed sales and deft replacements in key positions – despite all logic telling me we’re doomed to mid-table mediocrity next season. That his wealth of experience both good and bad has molded him into a wiser manager who can truely deliver at Spurs in spite of Levy. Can turn us into winners again. I’ll still keep it real and want ENIC out, but I have to cling on to that hope however tenuous. We all do.

How do you know Jose wasn’t first choice?

Levy doesn’t give a Fcuk who we finish above ( the ar$e or not)as long as it’s top four. That’s out of the question now so it’s possible Mourinho will be given his own players to an extent, however they will be either freebies or loans and he will have to sell to raise any revenue.
Not a good situation for him and certainly not for fans paying the highest prices, when they return, for what so far has been turgid fare.

Like I said let’s not forget where we were in the league when he took over. I am not a jose fan but the decision was made and he is here now. He has to have his chance just like arry had and avb and poch and all the rest. To be honest he does not have to do much to beat the rest as its been over twelve years since we last won anything. Someone said the most successful sporting franchise in the world have not won the super bowl since the mid 90s. This team has a some top players however it also has some real donkeys. When poch started getting it going look at the defence he had and look at what we have now. Like someone said even pep would struggle with this lot at the moment.

I was jealous of Jose at Chelsea spending so much money,I started to hate his arrogant persona of “the special one”,I laughed at his style of Football at Utd and then them sacking him. I love an underdog and the strange thing is ,the more abuse he gets from so called fans and ill informed media ,the more he is growing on me. While he is OUR manager I want him given his own players and a season to succeed and prove all the doubters wrong.I know we won’t get exciting football but I knew that when we hired him, with some new blood he might even surprise us.

Top 4? We were out of the hunt for top 5 by his third game back!

As for future dominance with a team full of “Jose players,” he got all the players he wanted at Man U after a world record £400 million spend. He was then fired for taking them closer to the bottom 3 than to Klopp and Guardiola and for still playing turgid football. So I’m ruling your proposition out even enic did magic him up another £400 million.

He is safe for now. The pressure will only truly come once the fleeced return. He had better hope that is delayed as long as possible.

So you agree Levy was correct in sacking poch then. Remember under poch we dropped like a stone and in the year from Christmas last year we had one of the worst away records. Point is it is not about the style of football nor the winning it is about getting us back to top four. Until Jose has a chance to bring in players and move out players it is unfair to judge him even if you don’t like the football. Question. If Jose by some crazy miracle Jose got the players he wanted and we win the league next year with jose type football would you still call for his sacking.

The pressure will come from the fans who are paying levy the most expensive prices in the world. Imagine regularly paying £60+ for the stuff seen on Monday night.

I think the majority do blame Mourinho for this football, which is already as numbing as anything under AVB, despite better players. He cannot be looking forward to the doors reopening and the return of punters paying the most expensive prices in world football. With this type and standard of football no way he lasts 5 years at spurs, probably not even another year.

Never going to happen. Let’s be clear for enic this is all a money driven project. Silver is silver but gold not that’s on a different planet. Jose was brought in because he was free at the time not because he was first choice. Levy will know from previous managers it takes time and as long as things improve each year the style of football we play is not important.
By taking out the government loan he has covered any loss so although CL would have been a aim this year I am sure Jose would have told dl there is a chance it might not happen.
Long and the short is get used to jose because he is going to be here for a few years yet. Levy did not pay him the wage he did to sack him six months later.
As for Levy anyone who thinks they can shift him from the club good luck as he is all powerful. He will only go when enic sell and that is not going to happen any year soon.

Jose has at least another seasons grace. AT LEAST.

Changing managers every 2 minutes is part of the reason we have been rubbish for 20 years.

Come on man, Jose Mourinho should be sacked less than a year into his tenure?

Rubbish.

Jose said this is a five year project, taking his cue from Klopp, so you better get used to it. I don’t think he’s going anywhere and the problems predate Jose so I’m not blaming him. It wouldn’t make much difference if Guardiola or Klopp was the manager. We might be a bit more organised but they’d still be undermined by the neglect of the team at the expense of infrastructure.

I would love him to go, but cant see Levy paying £30m to get shot, and admitting a huge failing. If Jose goes, he either needs to admit sacking poch instead of backing him was wrong, or that recruiting Jose was wrong. There is no win here for Levy. Wouldnt it be great if Jose got sacked, resulting in Levy going too for being inept…finally Lewis gets ear bashing off daughter and decides to sell to someone!! DREAM!!
