How times have changed. Arsenal currently exist in a world of pain, 14th in the Premier League, looking up at their rivals occupying the top slot. Indeed, even talking about playing Tottenham as an opportunity to somehow attempt to rejuvenate the ailing club’s worst season in nigh on 4 decades just shows how far the Gunners have fallen.
Talking to the Daily Mail, the Arsenal captain described this weekend’s North London Derby as a possible ‘turning point’ which is some heck of a reversal of fortunes. Looking at that club’s last 5 games, it’s easy enough to get one’s head around the problem – they aren’t scoring enough goals!
For an at-a-glance comparison, Spurs have scored 6 times in as many fixtures that it took Arsenal to score just twice. In fact, it was our hero Aubameyang that has been letting the side down, Alexandre Lacazette is Arsenal’s top striker in the Premier League, with just 3 goals to his name. Heung-Min Son has 9, and Harry Kane 7 goals to their names in the same competition. Physician heal thyself, mate.
Unfortunately form, more often than not, doesn’t matter in big derbies, but THFC should have enough confidence, desire, commitment, mentality, etc to win this one.
This is all true H … and yet … in spite of the clear disparity in current form and apparent gulf in class between the two teams, there always exists the nagging doubt, in a derby, that the form book might be overturned.
I watched their pathetic performance against Wolves and Aubameyang might just as well have not bothered to turn up … and yet … you just know that he will turn up against us, he always does.
This game has all the hallmarks of a classic banana skin. I think we will need to be at our very best to get a result. Let us hope that Hugo is fit, the last thing we need is Joe Hart palming one into his own net!
Likely partnered by Lacazette hopefully Auby does not break his drought on Sunday!!
Spurs expected to win, I am taking nothing for granted as form generally goes out the window in N London derbies!!
