The first season at Tottenham Hotspur hasn’t gone as planned for Emerson Royal. After arriving this past summer from FC Barcelona, the Brazil international was supposed to be the long-term solution for the right-back position; however, that hasn’t been the case.
As of now, Royal has split some of the right-back duties with Matt Doherty. Nonetheless, with his stint in the Premier League perhaps not going the way he envisioned, the 23-year-old was asked about the rumors connecting him to a return to Spain.
During an interview with Cadena SER (via Fichajes), Royal touched on the reports linking him to Atlético de Madrid.
“Yes, (the interest) has come to me. But for me, it is now a good moment at Tottenham, but I don’t know; it only belongs to God. I always want to work on the moment, but it is clear that I see those things too. And for It’s very important to me, I like the teams to see my football,” Royal said.
It will be interesting to see what transpires with Royal as manager Antonio Conte could be looking to upgrade both wing-back positions this summer. Meanwhile, Royal has seen he has the capabilities to play in La Liga, so he’d return to a league he knows.
Royal’s future likely lies in the hands of Conte and whether or not he sees the Brazilian in his squad.
The paucity of this squad is there for us all to see. Pining for Sissoko!!!
Who would you like to see as a right back? I want one with midfield skills. Don’t be surprised if Conte use Kulu over there in late game switch. This might sound crazy, but this is when I miss Sissoko who is a better footballer than Royal and Doherty.
I have a hard time believing this, but fingers crossed
Get rid. Please.
