Tottenham’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread and that thread is set to snap

By Bruce Grove -

The way this season has gone the chances of Tottenham qualifying for next season’s Champions League were slim and reading a couple of reports today, they are now even slimmer and the season has not even resumed yet.

The reason that Spurs hopes of Champions League football next season have receded is based on the opinion of Sky Sports pundit Kaveh Solhekol.

Solhekol reckons that Manchester City stand a good chance of getting their Champions League ban overturned on appeal to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

If the ban is upheld then it is very likely that the team finishing fifth would qualify for Europe’s elite competition and with Spurs being just four points behind fifth-placed Man Utd and the two teams set to play each other as soon as the season resumes there was every chance that Jose Mourinho’s men could have grabbed that fifth spot.

However, if City is not banned then seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea all of a sudden becomes a very tall order.

Solhekol, speaking on Sky Sports, claimed that Man City fans, the few there are, should be hopeful that the ban will be overturned because UEFA lacks the stomach for a fight and City are far richer than UEFA.

We will know soon enough, the appeal will start on June 8th and last for three days, hopefully, Solhekol is wrong in his assessment and the integrity of the game is maintained and financial doping or cheating as it really should be called, is finally clamped down on.

City could bankrupt UEFA if they were to take this all the way in the courts and City won’t back down guilty or not.We would be clutching at straws to think it is doable anyway.
Our only saving grace is,as I understand it,having a full squad to choose from. But that will apply to all teams I guess. We would be hoping that the other teams in contention would suddenly lose the form that took them above us in the first place.Let’s not forget Wolves and Sheff.Utd. who are also above us.It’s not just the usual suspects.
