Tottenham will beat Man Utd tonight as long as Jose Mourinho does this one thing | opinion

By Bruce Grove -

As the big game draws closer I must admit there is a sense of apprehension, not because the players are not good enough but because I worry deeply that Jose Mourinho will get his tactics and strategy wrong.

For some reason, the Portuguese manager seems to come undone when he goes up against his former clubs or former players, well, recently anyway.

I have no idea if it is a mental thing with Jose or him just trying to be clever but regardless, he does worry me when he comes up against his former teams/players.

However, that is not my biggest worry for tonight, no, it is that he will go all negative despite having the likes of Harry Kane at his disposal.

Parking the bus rarely works these days and neither does sitting back and playing negatively. It did work against Man City but let’s be honest, that was pure luck.

Tottenham going forward have an abundance of talent, Kane, Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn. In midfield, there is Moussa Sissoko, Gedson Fernandes, Tanguy Ndombele and if fit to play, Giovani Lo Celso.

That is some serious quality with goals and creativity all over the place and there really is no justification for being anything other than attack-minded.

We are not playing Man City or Liverpool this evening, then it is understandable to be cautious and even though United have improved, they are only four points above us because of the horrendous injuries that impacted our front players earlier in the season.

Tottenham is as good, if not better than United and they are definitely beatable by us but only if Mourinho takes a positive approach. If he does not and there is always the danger he will go negative, then we will lose.

It is purely down to Mourinho in my opinion and how he sets the lads up this evening, hopefully, he will do the right thing and take the game to United from the get-go.

I am personally not a fan of Jose being the Spurs boss but he can convert me if he starts playing the Tottenham way, that is all I ask.

It’s the mental side that worries me. Has the Champions League Final been left where it belongs? Do the players believe in the system they’re playing? We don’t have long to wait to find out.
