Tottenham pursuing versatile South American ace who will cost £34 million

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

The 22-year-old central defender has been an important player for the German club this season and he has helped them climb to the top of the table. Leverkusen are expected to win the league title this season and naturally, his performances have attracted the attention of the top clubs.

A report from SportBILD via SportWitness claims that Tottenham are interested in signing the Ecuador international at the end of the season.

Hincapie is valued at £34 million and it will be interesting to see if the North London outfit are prepared to pay up.

Ange Postecoglou has recently admitted that Spurs need another central defender to complete their defensive unit and Hincapie should prove to be the ideal fit. He has proven his quality in the Bundesliga and he is certainly good enough for the Premier League as well.

The reported asking price seems reasonable for a player of his potential and Hincapie could easily justify the investment in the coming seasons.

Hincapie would help Tottenham improve

The 22-year-old can operate as a central defender as well as a left back. He has the tactical flexibility to operate in a back four as well as a back three. He could prove to be a real asset for Spurs in the long-term.

The defender has been linked with other top clubs in recent months as well and Tottenham should look to make their move quickly in order to secure his services.

A move to the Premier League will be an exciting opportunity for the young defender and he will have to test himself at the highest level. If Spurs secure Champions League qualification, they will be an attractive destination for him as well.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham come forward with an official offer to sign the defender at the end of the season.
