Tottenham v Arsenal all over again but this time in the transfer market

Arsenal and Tottenham have one of the biggest rivalries in English football and both north London sides have served up some interesting games in recent memories.

They will continue to face each other as long as they both remain in the English top-flight and their rivalry does not end on the football pitch.

Express Sports is reporting that Arsenal is set to rival Tottenham for the signature of Southampton midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Dane is set to be sold by the Saints this summer after he told them he won’t be signing an extension to his current deal.

He has been stripped of the club’s captaincy and it appears very likely that he will now be sold.

Spurs have been frontrunners for his signature for quite some time, but the report is claiming that Mikel Arteta might look to join the race as he considers replacing a number of his midfield options.

It claims that there are uncertainties over the future of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira, and this could see the Gunners move for the former Bayern Munich man.

Spurs remain ahead in the race for his signature, and if they cannot meet the Saints’ asking price, they can offer Kyle Walker-Peters as part of the deal.

If this report is true it is typical of Arsenal, time and again they try to jump on the coat tail of Tottenham when it comes to identifying top talent.

If Hojbjerg wants to play for a mid-table team then he may as well stay at Southampton as opposed to moving to Arsenal. If he wants to play for a top team then it is obvious that a move to Spurs is his only option.
