Timo Werner’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain as he continues his extended loan spell from RB Leipzig.

While the German forward has delivered glimpses of his talent, questions linger over whether Spurs will secure his services permanently.

Former club scout Bryan King has cast doubt on Werner’s fit within Ange Postecoglou’s system. He expressed surprise at the initial loan move, suggesting that the 28-year-old may not align with the team’s long-term needs.

King noted that Tottenham already has strong depth in wide positions and believes the club should focus on addressing other priorities before considering a permanent transfer.

Speaking to Tottenham News, the former Spurs man said:

“I don’t think Spurs should sign Werner permanently. There are more important positions to be sorted out, they already have enough wide players at the club. It was a surprise for me when he joined Spurs in the first place.”

“For me, he’s not a Tottenham player. He’s come into the club, he’s obviously been professional in his attitude. However, I just don’t see him as a Spurs player.”

Werner’s arrival at Spurs in January this year on a six-month loan initially showed promise. He debuted with an assist for Rodrigo Bentancur’s equalizer in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United and followed that with consecutive goals in March, contributing to wins over Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

Convinced by his contributions, the Lilywhites extended Werner’s loan for another season, including an option to buy for £8.5 million. However, the current campaign has seen the left-winger struggle for consistency.

He netted his first goal of the season in a 2-1 League Cup victory against Manchester City and assisted Brennan Johnson in a dominant 4-0 league win over the same opponents.

Despite these flashes of quality, Werner’s overall tally of one goal and two assists in 15 appearances across all competitions reflects a mixed return.

There have been recent reports suggesting that the club could signing him on a permanent deal in the summer, but no decision has been made as yet.

With RB Leipzig holding Werner’s contract until 2026, Spurs will soon need to decide on his future.
