Tottenham urged to consider volatile former Spanish international as short term Kane replacement

Danny Mills has made a case for Diego Costa as a player that can cover for Harry Kane.

Kane will be out with injury for the next few weeks, and Tottenham hasn’t tested Carlos Vinicius in the Premier League.

Costa terminated his contract with Atletico Madrid last month and remains a free agent.

The Brazil-born Spain striker has already proven to be a hit in the Premier League during his time at Chelsea.

Mills thinks he can do a job for Tottenham and they should consider signing him on a short-term deal before Kane returns.

He admits that the former Chelsea man can be a bit of a handful, but he has the record to show that he can deliver.

Mills said to Football Insider: “There’s also Diego Costa still out there, you know.

“OK, he’s got one or two issues that you have to deal with Diego Costa but as a short-term measure from now to the end of the season I’m surprised nobody has taken a gamble on him. With his record which is outstanding.

“Carlos Vinicius is there to step up but I think it depends how long Harry Kane is going to be out for.

“That’s ultimately going to be the key. Is it going to be 10 days to two weeks or is it going to be a month to six weeks?

“That’s what Mourinho will be fearful of. Harry Kane has had injuries in the past but he’s always come back from those injuries and when he’s back to fitness it doesn’t look like those injuries are holding him back in any way shape or form so that’s a good sign for Tottenham.”

Vinicius has been in fine form when he has played for Tottenham in the cups.

He will have his chance now that Kane is unavailable and if he takes it, he may earn a permanent Tottenham stay.

It will be interesting to see if Vinicius does get a chance against Brighton. As Kane’s injury doesn’t look too serious I can’t see a move for Costa.
