Tottenham Hotspur continue to have Olympique Lyon’s young talent Rayan Cherki on their transfer list. Spurs scouts have watched the 21-year-old French star during FCSB and Lille matches this season and have provided positive reports.
Recently, Fabrizio Romano told us that the player was an excellent talent:
“Lyon insist there are certain conditions to be met, so it’s not that simple. In any case, for me, it’s a potential bargain as he is an excellent talent.”
The Boy Hotspur understands Tottenham considers Lyon’s price tag of around £30 million for Cherki a reasonable investment. The management believes that the young star’s versatility in both attacking midfield and wing positions will make a significant contribution to the team.
Other clubs are closely following Cherki as Tottenham prepares to take swift steps in the transfer process. Although Lyon rejected Borussia Dortmund’s previous offer, Dortmund is expected to make a new attempt this summer.
AC Milan, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa are also closely monitoring Cherki’s development. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, is considering Cherki as a potential replacement should Eberechi Eze be sold during the summer transfer window.

Our view
Aged 21, and with a decent footballing CV coming together, Cherki looks like an interesting prospect. It must be asked if Spurs might not benefit from making the right wing at Spurs stronger, by getting our backline in order and moving the defensively suspect Pedro Porro further up the pitch, where he is frequently exciting to watch?
With Archie Gray also overdue a move out of defence, it may be time for a closer look at what Ange Postecoglou has been up to during his two seasons and see if improvements can be made!
