Rejects from other clubs, players over 30, average Premier and French league players|opinion

By Bruce Grove -

Transfer gossip can be very tedious but it is also a time for excitement at the prospect of a top-class player strengthening the team but not this summer.

This summer, which has barely started, is increasingly depressing with some of the players being linked with a move to the Tottenham stadium.

Willian from Chelsea is a prime example, a player passed his peak, who reneged on a move to Spurs, that is likely looking for one last big payday and basically a Chelsea reject. The 32-year-old is widely reported to be a Tottenham target with The Express once reporting he had agreed to join us.

Then there is Ryan Fraser who The Mirror reckons has set his sights on signing for us. He is a decent enough player for sure but is he really top-six quality? It is not like Man City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich or Barcelona are lining up to sign him.

Some may say that Philippe Coutinho is world-class and I will not necessarily disagree with that, Liverpool did not want to lose him, Barcelona paid well over £100 million for him and even though Bayern Munich do not want to sign him permanently, they still loaned him.

But let’s be honest, he would only sign for us if we offer him a king’s ransom and one has to question his motivation and desire. Though, it must be noted that Spurs have agreed to pay his Barcelona salary per Spanish media outlet, Sport.

Then we have a long list of French youngsters I have never heard of, players from Brazil because they speak the same language as Jose Mourinho and other rejects from around Europe.

You get teams like Borussia Dortmund snapping up players like 19-year-old Erling Haland, who was clearly very talented, Chelsea signing 27-year-old Hakim Ziyech and probably 24-year-old Timo Werner and we get linked with 32-year-old has been Ivan Rakitic, however, The Mail is reporting today that he has turned down a move to Tottenham.

Rejects from other clubs, players over 30, average Premier and French league players, that is Tottenham’s lot while others are signing up exciting highly talented driven youngsters.

Yup, it really is a depressing summer.

Some perspective at last as to how Enic run a business. We get linked with this dross because that’s who we mostly sign. Love to see it change though.
