Tottenham suffer transfer blow in their bid to sign Serie A star

By Bruce Grove -

Rumours yesterday claimed that Tottenham was interested in signing AC Milan’s Franck Kessie (CalcioMercato).

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the best midfielders in Italy and his fine performances are one of the reasons why AC Milan is currently leading Serie A.

The report claimed that Spurs is battling Arsenal for his signature and both teams were looking to sign him in the January transfer window.

The north London rivals might struggle to land him now after the latest interview with Paolo Maldini on Gazzetta Dello Sport in which he talked about the midfielder’s desire to stay and achieve things at the Italian side.

Kessie had problems with his manager, Stefano Pioli which had fueled the rumours that he was leaving, but Maldini’s words seem to indicate that things have been sorted and the midfielder wants to remain in Milan now.

“As a player and captain I was uncompromising – Maldini told Gazzetta Dello Sport as quoted by Milan News.

“But many of my footballing certainties in these two and a half years as a manager have been demolished. I talk about how to build a team and how to manage it. Sometimes a caress. we need more than a reproach, we are not all the same. I have learned that in recent months. Franck has shown his love for Milan. He wants to bring this club back to the top, like so many others here in the club. “

Spurs have some of the best midfielders in the league, and if Kessie decides not to join them, Jose Mourinho’s team will still do just fine.
