Tottenham striker search takes them down to the Championship

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham is in search of a new striker and some of their targets continue to elude them on a daily basis.

The new season is barely a week away and the Lilywhites haven’t signed a new striker that fits their criteria.

They have targeted the likes of Victor Osimhen and Callum Wilson in this transfer window, both strikers have now joined other teams.

The Sun journalist, Alan Nixon  is reporting that Jose Mourinho’s side has now taken their striker search to the English Championship.

He claims that they have become the latest team to show interest in Brentford striker, Ollie Watkins.

Watkins was a key member of the Brentford team that nearly won promotion to the Premier League last season.

They missed out on a place in the Premier League after losing the final of the Championship Playoffs to Fulham.

They are now resigned to losing their top players like Watkins.

Nixon claims that Spurs isn’t the only English team looking to sign him and they will have to beat competition from Aston Villa to land him.

Spurs have already signed Matt Doherty, Joe Hart and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but adding a striker still remains a priority.

Watkins scored 25 goals in 46 Championship games last season.

I have just written something similar regarding ENIC using the club and stadium to profit by selling housing in the area. Without building the stadium ENIC wouldn’t have been able to push their agenda to regenerate in the way they have. The club goes in debt, but ENIC, Lewis and Levy will pocket a fortune.

I’m sure somebody on here said they have seen him play a few times and he would be worth signing up but from what I have been reading today it seems the Metz boy is the one we will sign.

I’ve been banging on about this one since Brentford lost the final. Watkins is exactly what we need in the supporting role and he’ll be hungry. I don’t have a problem with this one at all. Having said that, I’m sure Baldy will be lining up a bid of 2 shillings and thruppence payable over 75 years.

It is amazing that Spurs fans continue to pat themselves on the back by proclaiming that we are self sufficient, that we live within our means and that we are not going to do a Leeds. Lewis put £22 mill into Spurs and that is the only capital he has invested. Enic is now valued at circa £2 bill, excluding debt. I am not a forensic analyst but if we take it at face value that he has received no dividends, where has the money engendered by the club’s success on the pitch gone. Leaving aside Levy’s preposterous salary, where did the money come from to buy the property adjacent to the ground to build the new craft ale emporium? There was £350 mill on the club’s balance sheet before building works started. I put it to those of you who continue to adopt the party line that Lewis has not received any duffle bags, that he has benefited in a completely different manner. If I own a holding company which owns and controls a subsidiary which is producing cash flow from gate receipts, CL success, merchandising and Sky Sports, and I reinvest that money to expand my property empire, thereby dramatically increasing the NAV of the holding company, am I not effectively taking a massive dividend?
We are constantly fed the same guff from Levy and his acolytes that we must sell to buy first, why? It is complete nonsense. Try telling me that we couldn’t arrange a line of credit to buy first and sell later. We already have a debt of £850 mill anyway. How many times have we read that “Spurs made a last minute offer to sign but”? When you have a joined up transfer policy, you identify your targets long before you attempt to sign them and you do due diligence on them.
I haven’t watched the Amazon documentary as it is quite obvious to me what Levy is about. After all this time, we are still a small minded club that continues to be a selling club because we are run by a small minded man.

Looking at the All or Nothing( so it’s nothing then) videos this is a club built on smoke and mirrors. All the fancy surroundings, high tech equipment, corporate infrastructure is just cosmetic. Underneath the fabric of the enterprise is the knowledge by all involved that this club will never win anything of any substance or have consistent success on the football pitch because there is simply no “Investment” to reach that position. The manager knows it, the staff know it and most damagingly the players know it. The huffing and puffing by Levy and Hitchens amounts to no more than filibustering. The devil is in the detail. The killer comments by both of these weasels is “we have a budget”. It is the scale and size of that budget that is the essence of all that is wrong at the club. The top clubs above us have budgets of a size that meets the need of clubs looking to succeed at the
highest levels of the game. ENIC and Levy limit any aspiration of real success by
determining a budget that is the equivalent of handcuffs and a straightjacket and makes it impossible to build a squad that will achieve anything of note. All our best players who have left over the years have done so because of this lack of ambition and investment. Listening to Kane’s comments at 27 years of age he will absolutely be gone at the end of what promises to be another season of failure. Eriksen left because he was 27 years of age and could see that he had next to no chance of winning anything at this club. Until these parasites we have as owners leave nothing will change.

He’ll be a twenty million plus player no problem, so we’ll be priced out again. This is one story like The Bale saga that I’m sick of.
