Tottenham starting XI v Watford – Strong lineup as Spurs look to make it three wins from three

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham have had an excellent start to their Premier League campaign and will be looking to make it three wins from three this afternoon against promoted new boys Watford.

The only hiccup so far this season was the away loss to Pacos Ferreira in the European Conference League and Spurs put that right midweek with an impressive 3-0 win to secure qualification to the group stages.

The Harry Kane transfer saga is now behind us and he is already back scoring goals, Dele Alli is like a new signing, Son has hit the ground running and Lucas and Steven Bergwijn are on fire.

Add to that the defence stepping up for a change and everything is rosy right now in the Tottenham garden, however, Watford will not be walkovers, they will be dangerous and these are the sort of fixtures that Spurs have dropped points in before.

Anyway, this is the team that Nuno Santos has gone with. Let us know in the comments below what you think of the lineup and what your predicted score is.

It’s amazing what emphasis is often put on fairly minor trophies over league position, when the whole structure of the game has completely devalued domestic cup competitions.

Laughably, some people were saying what a superior manager Arteta must have been to have won the FA Cup while the hapless Pochettino failed to win a pot. Well, let’s be clear, winning minor cups no longer holds the prestige it once did and neither is is an accurate barometer of managerial acumen.

Arteta clearly can’t cut it, yet he won the FA Cup. I rest my case…

Whilst I’m happy with the results, I’m not sure we’ve move on drastically from last year with the exception of Skipp being an upgrade. Skipp and PEH are protecting well so Dier and Sanchez have been helped out drastically. Ins and outs key in the coming hours, I hope the table doesn’t make levy think we’ve done enough in the window already.

As discussed in excellent posts by Finn and Marbella, this is a false position. Almost like last season. I like Nino but he’s hamstrung by Levy and a dreadful transfer policy. To dare is too dear again for ENIC. Scumbag owners.

I went today. We are solid defensively, with Dier and Sanchez doing the bread and butter stuff well. Going forwards we are struggling a bit for ideas and move the ball too slowly. But promising nonetheless.

Yeah watching Traore today he’d be interesting at Spurs – he is a constant headache for opposing defenders and I thought he found his team mates well in the final third.

No one can score for Wolves though, cursed, the better side today just about

If you have such a player of the calibre of Traore or a Saint -Maximin, then you cannot tie them down to orders and coach them to play a specific role like so many try to do.
They need the freedom that allows them to play their natural game of attacking defenders and making things happen by creating chances, I would love either of those two or Jeremy Doku a young Belgian who is of a similar type.
Gyl may turn out to be decent but it’s early days, although the potential is there.

We may be sitting at the top of the table at the moment but that is a false flag. We look turgid and lacking in any creativity in the midfield. We give possession away too much. I like Hoijberg being slightly further forward but we desperately need a creative midfielder who can pass the ball forward and create openings. I would go for Traore if he is available purely because he will run at defences and open them up for the likes of Kane and Son. Ali and Berwijn together just doesn’t work for me.

I’d like both of them. One on each side.

Gil is our version of Traore but with better end product but needs the Sacred Spirit to start him.’

Unproven in The Prem, wet behind the ears, and I’m guessing he couldn’t also operate as a stand in for Kane? Still think Traore would be useful/different to Gil

Well Traore is playing today so guessing he stays at Wolves, think as another wing option/backup striker I’d embrace the transfer at this point

We need a bit of a statement signing – a new central defender was what we most needed but is hardly a signing to scare anybody

Somebody said to take a screenshot of the Premier League table Spurs on top Arsenal at the bottom.
Is that the first time that’s ever happened? 😍😂😁

The manner of our early top of the table form doesn’t spell a top 4 finish from what I can tell. Beat man city & top early doors – I’m getting that ‘last season/Groundhog’ feeling; hope it doesn’t last.

Very disappointed about Gill’s omission.
Perhaps himself and Moura will be selected against Palace!

Great to be out ahead at the top of the league, but don’t want that to preclude Levy from strengthening in the obvious areas.Sadly I see that happening with only 2 days left in the window.Outside the first 11 we are well short.

Bring back the reply button please.

H you need to sort this blog out and tell us what is going on. Its fading away. Seen match day blogs with multiple hundreds of comments. I miss the old style. I used to check in every day but I can’t be bothered now.

At HT bring Moura and Ginolesque Gill on (who by the way can cross a ball!!) to open up the Watford defence! Longer it’s 0-0 Waford will fancy their chances!
Hang on it’s 1 nil. Still do the same.

Guess it was a coin toss between Moura & Bergwijn to accommodate Kane?
Good line up & predicting a THFC 3-1 win.
