One of the areas that Tottenham is looking to strengthen is the right-back spot and according to the latest report from Sky Sports, Spurs have opened up talks with Barcelona over the signing of defender Emerson Royal.
Tottenham currently have Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier as their natural right-backs, however, neither has shone in that position and it was always going to be a matter of time before Spurs brought in a replacement.
Aurier is very likely to be sold, whereas Doherty will be allowed to remain and fight for the right-back spot but based on his previous performances, he faces an uphill task.
Japhet Tanganga can also fit in as a full back/wing back but that is not his natural position and the youngster may yet be sent out on loan.
It is difficult to comment too much on Royal, he looks impressive on Youtube but then so does any player but Barcelona rarely have mediocre players in their ranks and one has to think that the 22-year-old is a bit decent.
It should also be noted that Royal has been loaned out by Barca for the last three seasons to Real Betis so he is clearly surplus to requirements at the Spanish giants.
No fee has been mentioned but it should not be too much, Barcelona needs money and are not in a position to negotiate too hard.
