Eric Dier has revealed that during the lockdown, a lot of things were going through his mind and he did consider quitting Tottenham.
The defender has been a key member of the Tottenham team this season under Jose Mourinho, but it wasn’t always like that.
He had struggled to play for Spurs last season and he didn’t get the chance to play international football for the whole of that campaign.
He also had an expiring contract towards the end of last season and he claimed that he did consider his future at the club.
He said that he considered his Tottenham future because he didn’t think that he was achieving what he needed to achieve at the club and as the end of his deal approached, it was almost inevitable that he would leave.
He told Mail Online: ‘That was definitely on my mind, I didn’t feel like I was achieving what I wanted. When your contract starts to come to an end, you question if you’re part of the future.
‘I had no desire to be at a club in the last year of my contract. The club knew the summer would see a decision made either way.’
He is now one of the first names on the team sheet and the defender will hope things remain that way.
Poor Verts was out the door instead.. Would have rather he stayed to fight for his place. A chance he would have won something. A trophy and a testimonial beats a rolex and a framed photo thats for sure.
And off the pitch too. 😂 I can still see him clambering up the rows of seats. I wonder if the distance was shorter then he would have done the Cantona.. It took him so long he had time to calm down by the 20th row.
His headers at the back have also been invaluable.
Dier on Mourinho:
“He is very authentic, very real and never changes. That’s something enjoyable to work with – very honest, very direct. He is the first one to be serious and also the first one to have a joke when the time is right.”

Ok whilst he is not amongst the echelons of the greatest defenders in the world IMO his calm and collected presence on the pitch has contributed to our lofty position in the league.

Whilst he has his critics, lauded by Jose, Dier is one player you can rely upon for fighting spirt and passion on the pitch.
