Tottenham ready to offload 23-year-old this summer even for a small fee

By Bruce Grove -

Noel Whelan reckons that Nuno Espirito Santo will offload Cameron Carter-Vickers this summer to free up some wages for new transfers.

The American spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and he was in fine form for the Cherries.

The defender has now had his asking price doubled to £5 million after his performances on loan and Newcastle United as well as Celtic want him, according to Football Insider.

The American had initially been tipped to leave Tottenham on a free transfer and the arrival of Santo could also give him a new lease of life.

However, Whelan reckons that the best option for the Portuguese manager would be to allow him to leave to free up space on the club’s wage bill.

He insists that the 23-year-old is unlikely to make the grade at Tottenham and they should accept a bid of around £5 million or less for him.

Spurs has too many players and he thinks they will need to trim down their squad and selling the centre-back is one way to achieve that.

Whelan told Football Insider: “I think when a player has not been playing at the club that owns him, it looks to me they’re looking to get him out.

“He’s not going to make the grade in the Premier League with Tottenham. But he’ll also be on big wages.

“It makes sense to try and get a player out of the club permanently, no matter what that is. Get him off the wage bill and recoup what they’ve already paid.

“£5million probably would do that I would have thought, possibly even less. Then Tottenham have freed up some wages in a position where they can strengthen as well.

“I think Nuno Espirito Santo will be thinking the same thing. He needs to cut the squad down.

“You don’t need players there that aren’t going to make a difference to him.

“He wants to bring in players and use the money wisely on players that can be the difference.”

I agree…the point I was trying to make was the 12m should have been spent towards a first team starter. Now that’s done i agree for the good of everyone you move him on but I wouldn’t have the faith you seem to have in the people making decisions at the club.

Rodon is better, right now, and also has a higher ceiling than CCV. We can speculate all we want, but the basic fact is that people who have seen him train for years have decided he’s not going to cut it. It is what it is, time to move him on.

It’s really strange all I can come up with is he doesn’t look like a EPL Dc short bulky and his distribution is basic no nonsense( probably could have done with a bit of that last season)

Another victim of our strange transfer policy, has a good preseason but sent out on loan; only for us to spend £12m on Rodon who performed less impressively at the same level. He has club training status( but we don’t do Europe any more) and the wages? He’s probably on about 1/4 Sanchez Dier or 1/8 Ndombele. To be clear I like Rodon and am happy to have him but he just wasn’t what was needed when bought.

I’m wondering why CC-V has never been given a fair chance at THFC?
From the bits I’ve seen he’s big, strong, reasonably quick, good in the air & shows plenty of commitment. (Seemingly better than 1 or 2 on THFC’s payroll?)
