Tottenham player ratings v Lokomotiv Plovdiv – better than TV performance

By Bruce Grove -

Unless you were a journalist allowed into the Lokomotiv Stadium the chances of you watching the entire game uninterrupted are minimal due to continuous TV interruptions.

Significant parts of the game were not viewable and so the ratings today are a mish-mash of ones own viewing and reports.

Tottenham Player Ratings

Hugo Lloris – 6

From what I saw, which did not include the goal, Lloris had hardly anything to do

Matt Doherty – 5

Busy but yet to see the player that did so well for Wolves

Eric Dier – 6

Did better than against Everton but was not really put under pressure that much

Davinson Sanchez – 5

Looking at the replays he should have done better with the hosts’ goal.

Ben Davies – 4

Sooner Sergio Reguilon arrives the better

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6

I thought he did ok, no errors to speak of and remained focussed.

Moussa Sissoko – 5

Really average performance and his lack of creativity is becoming a handicap.

Giovani Lo Celso – 8

Probably the best player on the pitch and will come on loads for this game, he certainly showed more urgency and forward-thinking than almost anyone on the pitch.

Steven Bergwijn – 7

Nearly as good as Lo Celso but I thought the Argentine just edged it for man of the match. Like his teammate, he showed urgency and did try to create at every opportunity.

Harry Kane – 6

Scored from the spot but he still lacks sharpness and is struggling to get into games.

Subs

Tanguy Ndombele – 7

Made an impact and his confidence will be lifted by this performance. Could this be the time we see him finally kick start his Tottenham career?

Erik Lamela – 5

Average when he came on

Lucas Moura – 5

Same as Lamela, average display in the time he was on the pitch.

TV Broadcast – 0

Uefa needs to hand out some fines or demand a refund, utter rubbish.

Was i watching a different game? How do 3 internationals score so high in attacking roles, when the opposition of the pub team needed to be reduced by 2 men before we scored?

The stream is so poor it is hard to see exactly what happened but it appears they scored from a corner that was headed on by one of theirs to an unmarked player and instead of Dire this time Sanchez does an “air jump”. WTF is going wrong with our defending thats 2 goals from set pieces after JoMo told them in the Amazon doc “you shite yourselves from set pieces”.

Come on Ledley I dont want us to concede any more this season from a set piece.

Dress it up how you want. It went close to a team that’s about equal to League 1. Much improvement needed.

Sadly Gedsons’s done before we can really get a good look at him. I think the bell has tolled for Dele and Bergwijn too.
We’ve just signed (almost) two wing backs in Dogherty and Reguilon, which points to us going with a back three in the long term. Add Bale to the mix and we’re looking at a 3-4-3.

Toby, Dier (god help us) and A N Other from the rest of the defenders in the squad.
Midfield 4 of Reguilon and Dogherty on the flanks and LoCelso and Hojbjerg/N’Dombele in the middle.
Kane, Sonny and Bale up top.
Dele, if he stays is a squad player with Bergwijn, Lucas and Lamela.
Gedson hasn’t got a snowball’s.
I have to say it’s a pity to watch Dele’s slow demise, but the gaffer called him out as lazy, and it’s plain to see on the pitch. His stats and numbers are stark compared to 16/17 season when he knocked in 18 goals for fun, and was playing to make a statement.

Jose is a pure genius. Get the team to play so bad, that Ndombele coming on improves us, gets him a goal and gives him confidence.
Playing so badly also lulls future team into a sense of not having to try against us and we’ll catch them cold……that or he’s trying to force Levy into spending more money to make us play less shit.
I’ve seen us play well and lose, winning is all that matters, even if it was against some bulgarian conference team that came close to an upset.

He just seems to be clogging a squad space now. Guess he’ll linger around until January then….while more useful players could get shifted. Say Sessegnon goes out on loan and you keep this fella – it’s an odd one

Villa being the recipient of a player we should have made a move for in Oliie Watkins. With the clock ticking now left with the likes of Troy Deeney and speculative interest in Danny Ings!

True about Davies until you have to play him for 11 games and remember he offers nothing apart from excepting low wages and being professional. Perfect for levy not the team.

I take it the Gedson Fernandes loan is just going to drift and fade to nothing? :/

Is he still looking porkie? How can you be over weight being a professional footballer nowadays ? Maybe in the 70 ‘s .

Agreed when it did not seem to disrupt the exciting Leeds style of play against Liverpool starting where they left off last season!

Running around a football pitch will help with that!

Shouldn’t every team be at the same level roughly? Regardless another 7 games in how many weeks will get them fit,,,or break them…

IMO he could do with shedding a few pounds in weight for starters!

I’m hoping this is down to lack of fitness and match sharpness, we can’t be this poor.

Whilst it’s fair to say that Son is not at his best he still carries a threat and excited by him and Kane linking up with the Bale and the other new guy.

Considering the lowly nature of the opposition it was as bad as Sunday. We only beat them because they were down to 9 men after all. I expected goals and assists from Lo Celso against this type of opposition tbh. How long before we created a meaningful chance?

Moura has earned a bit longer in the squad, he finished last season our best player tbh, also might struggle to find a better left back backup than Davies.

Sissy and Lamela are ok fringe squad players but also if they get moved on I’d understand it.

The sooner we replace Lamela, Sissoko and Moura, Davies the better.
