That was not the most inspiring game but it is a win and three points and that is all that matters at this stage of the season. Doing the Tottenham player ratings after a game like that is never easy because the lads did win but it would not have justified the admission price if fans were allowed in.
It was a typical Jose Mourinho match, dreary but effective and there is no point being over critical when three points have been bagged against a team that did represent a big threat,
Tottenham Player Ratings
Hugo Lloris – 5
Would have been higher but he risked a red card at the end of the first half because he could not wait to get into the dressing room to give Son a deserved rollicking.
Serge Aurier – 7
Actually had a good game doing what he is paid to do, defend.
Toby Alderweireld – 7
Was a rock in defence, was calm throughout with some good passing thrown in as well. Should be hard to dislodge for next game.
Eric Dier – 7
Solid in defence and made some good runs out of defence at opportune moments.
Ben Davies – 5
Too much messing about on the ball and fairly ineffective going forward.
Moussa Sissoko – 7
Did very well in midfield and played his role defending when required.
Harry Winks – 7
Busy as usual but with very little end product but did his job well in both midfield and defence when needed.
Giovani Lo Celso – 8
Man of the match for me, earned the goal, was always linking up play and generally a pain in the butt for Everton.
Lucas Moura – 5
A shadow of the player he was last season, really does not suit the Mourinho style.
Son Heung-min – 5
Another very average game, he did get some shots off but always straight at the keeper or first defender.
Harry Kane – 6
Worked hard and never stopped running, helped out in defence as well, he is still clearly short of fitness.
Subs
Steven Bergwijn – 5
Only on for ten minutes and did as expected
Erik Lamela – 5
Another one that was not on too long that did what was asked of him
Jan Vertonghen – N/A
Not on long enough to get a rating
Manager
Jose Mourinho – 7
It was a win for the manager I suppose but the football is just horrible to watch.
Yeah, in agreement with these ratings.
Biggest worries are:
– I’m not sure Davies or Aurier are 1st choice picks for next season.
– We want one or two of our midfield attackers to rise above the others and be definite starting picks but Son, Bergwijn, Lamela, Moura and Alli all seem like ‘5 to 7 out of 10’ performers every game, as does Winks.
– Lo Celso is getting the Eriksen effect in that we now only look to the one player to ‘make something happen’ and teams have now wised up to this and are on ‘foul at will’ kicking lumps out of him and generally fast to disrupt him – worked so well for the Blades though Everton weren’t quite as effective at this. No wonder he plays with a scowl on his face.
– Dier is impressing me in that he’s doing a good job but again will he become the leader of our defence? Is he that good?
I don’t think we’ll be seeing crowds back next season until the vaccine is available and the virus has been squashed. We could have a whole season of no crowds.
Yes it wasn’t great. Think how Everton must feel – they lost the game!
I’d like to see our heat map.I’m guessing our red areas were all in our own half.Awful.
Fortunately the game passed me by as I was either texting a gooner mate or following this blog.
For me Toby was MOTM followed by Dier. They were solid at the back as shown by the clean sheet, but for me Davies and Aurier are not good enough. It was a similar match to West Ham in that we won a drab game against very poor opposition, although at least we did score the goals.
Son is below average at the moment, but I feel for Kane. He’s getting no service and had more touches in our box defending well. When he was forward his touch was assured even though it was usually in midfield.
Had the fans had the misfortune of paying to watch that performance there would be a lot of dissatisfaction with the manager’s tactics and he and Levy are being shielded from that for now.How many renewals will there be for a mid table team with no euro football next season?
I think Dier has been our best player since the restart. CB suits him perfectly, looks like a proper player now.
It wasn’t pretty but it didn’t look like we expended too much energy and we have 2 more games coming up fast.
Sorry….Jose a 7 out of 10? For what? Inspiring the lack of passion or the dull as dishwater tactics? We may have won, but took an own goal and in 90 mins we had 3 shots on target. Jose is a poor poor manager.
If we aren’t going to play at the top level next season then at least the football might as well be entertaining. Watching this guff in the Ropey League and finishing 6th? No thanks…

Even the commentator on Sky said it was boring at the end and fans don’t want to watch boring football. A wins a win I suppose.
‘it is a win and three points and that is all that matters at this stage of the season’
I totally disagree, we aren’t going to make the Champions League and just scrapping 1-0 wins at home is hardly filling anyone with confidence for next season. We should be laying the groundwork for next season.
Sorry Jose, but this just isn’t the Spurs approach to football, players getting ratings for doing their part defending but nothing to report going forward from anyone.
Pleased we won but not the way we did it because I can’t see where it’s heading at all. Boring, uninspiring and dull…
Ok. I’d probably just give them all 5 as I was asleep before the hour mark.
Woke up with ten mins to go but went to water the balcony and dead-head the roses.
It’s just so fucking dull.
Did anyone but me see Aurier’s attempted Cryuff (he missed the ball) and his drag back (straight out of play)? Everyone makes mistakes, but he has taken it to a new level. A 7 is generous. Why keep Harry Kane if we don’t play around his strengths? Having him as a defensive midfielder isn’t working for me! Son was better, so I’ll take that and Lo Celso did ok in a very turgid affair.
