Tottenham player ratings against Crystal Palace – two players receive 7 but a few get just a 4

By Bruce Grove -

It was not vintage Tottenham this afternoon at Selhurst Park but the lads did what they had to do and that was to finish sixth and qualify for the Europa League.

There were no real standout performances and that is reflected in the Tottenham player ratings.

Hugo Lloris – 6

Cannot be blamed for the goal and basically did his job for the 90 minutes

Serge Aurier – 5

Normal service from Aurier today, a mix of poor tackling and poor touches with the occasional good tackle.

Toby Alderweireld – 7

Did well really, was under constant pressure and never buckled.

Eric Dier – 5

Looked slightly rusty, did well coming out of defence but too often would give away silly fouls.

Ben Davies – 4

Not impressed with him at all today, yes he made the odd tackle but his first touch was woeful, he offers next to nothing coming out of defence and he was not great overall in the tackle.

Harry Winks – 4

Was overrun in midfield, hardly helped the defence and offered zero creativity.

Moussa Sissoko – 4

His first touch was very poor and gave the ball away too often.

Giovani Lo Celso – 5

Being smothered with Mourinho’s tactics but he needs to do better and be more creative. That said, he did set up Kane for the goal.

Lucas Moura – 6

He really did try and open up Palace but was lacking support in midfield to build up any decent openings.

Son Heung-min -4

Not his best game by a long way and looked tired.

Harry Kane – 7

Took the goal very well and was involved quite a bit, even in defence. He needs better service.

Subs

Steven Bergwijn – 5

Average when he came on

Dele Alli – not on long enough

Oliver Skipp – not on long enough

Davinson Sanchez – not on long enough

Manager

Jose Mourinho – 7

Achieved what he set out to do and at the end of the day he got the result he needed.

They offer nothing , definite replacements required, I think you’d see Lo Celso benefit from those two gone.

Beat me to it. Just been typing the same thing. Winks and Sissoko were shocking today.

Eriksen was a rarity, Lamela is a better example of one of our buys. I struggle to see exactly what Lo Celso brings to us tbh. I see a reasonable player but compared to Bruno Fernandez not much. I don’t see particular vision, I don’t see strength, I don’t see shooting ability, I don’t see much of an ability to beat players. All I really see are the odd forward run into space, but nothing earth shattering. He works hard sometimes, but usually only in one half of a game. We’ve not had particularly tough opposition either. It worries me if we’re pinning the role Eriksen played for us so successfully solely on him. We need another playmaker.

Our biggest problem is the Winks and Sissoko partnership constantly losing posession in midfield. Neither are particularly creative players and Sissoko’s second touch is a tackle. They stifle the likes of Lo Celso and Kane who have to drop deep all the time. Very frustrating to watch. I’m not a fan of Dier in defence either, but some of his distribution was excellent today to be fair. We desperately need a visionary physical presence who can break up play and keep the ball in that central mid area though. Palace are a bang average side and today was a dead rubber for them, yet they still schooled our midfield. Embarrasing.

When Sissokos bad he is very bad he needs to come off.. Winks and Lo celso just aren’t good enough.. We need quality centre midfielders.. Son has reverted back to his original inconsistent manner.. Davies is poor.. Half our team/squad needs a transition.

I bet he still got more assists and goals than Lo Celso…TBF to Eriksen he was a world class player for several seasons at Spurs and was paid lousy wages. No wonder he got miffed, so would I.

Apparently if Chelsea win the cup we will go straight into the group stages of EL if Arsenal win the cup we will have to play a qualifying round .

Do you remember the last 12 months of eriksen had the same creative problems of a mute man with no arms or legs I mean it’s in there somewhere but no way to show it

According to some, Palace were bricking it at the prospect of Special One and Spurs visiting. Alas a pattern is emerging here, where the reality and the wishful thinking are quite separate things…

Do the words ‘Jose’ & vintage Tottenham’ belong in the same sentence?! 😂

Gawd help us then. He forgot to jump for their goal, basic stuff. Why do we keep playing Winks? He slows everything down just to pass sideways or back, by which time any spaces upfront have been filled. Jeez how we miss Eriksen’s creativity, apart from a rather fortunate assist the much vaunted Lo Celso did f all again, except give the ball away.

Was just thinking that we should of gone up the gears after scoring if we play like we can 3-0 is the least you expect jose 5 for tactics end of the day if wolves managed to do something we would be 7th relying on chavski always feels bitter

Nobody had a good game, I dont get dropping Sanchez for Dier who I dont like at CB, but it looks like he will be Mourinho’s first choice next season.
