Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Johnny Cardoso for several months, and it seems that they are looking to secure his signature this summer.

Tottenham secured an option to sign the player for a fee of around €25 million when they sold Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis. It appears that they are now ready to trigger the clause and sign the United States International.

Cardoso has been very impressive for the Spanish outfit, and he could be a key player for Tottenham. They need more depth and quality in the middle of the park, and the United States International will add physicality, drive and defensive cover to the side.

The 23-year-old has proved his quality in La Liga, and signing him for €25 million would represent a huge bargain.

Tottenham working on Johnny Cardoso move

According to journalist Dean Jones, Tottenham are now looking to finalise an agreement for the player. It will be interesting to see if they can get the deal across the line.

“They are pressing ahead in negotiations for Mathys Tel and are also looking to close out agreements for Johnny Cardoso and Angel Gomes. All of this is happening while serious internal conversations are unfolding about Ange Postecoglou’s future. Sunday night in London saw key decision-makers discussing whether to stick or twist with the manager,” Jones wrote on the Ranks FC Ultras Patreon page.

Tottenham need to improve

They have secured Champions League qualification for the next season, and convincing the midfielder to join them should not be difficult. Even though they have the opportunity to secure his services for a reasonable amount of money, the midfielder has to agree to the move.

Tottenham must improve their squad during the summer transfer window if they want to bounce back strongly. They have finished 17th in the league table, and a club of their stature should be doing a lot better. They will be looking to fight for a top-four finish next year, and they will also look to do well in the cup competitions.

Cardoso has proved himself in Spain, and he could be excited to try out a new challenge in England now. The move to Tottenham could be a tremendous opportunity for him.
