Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the United States International Johnny Cardoso in recent months.
The 23-year-old has done quite well for La Liga outfit Real Betis, and Tottenham have the option to sign him for a fee of around €25 million at the end of the season.
According to a report from Nervion Hill, Tottenham want to pay his release clause in the summer, but they could still miss out on the player. The midfielder could decide to continue at the Spanish club beyond this summer.
There is a high chance Tottenham could miss out on European qualification for the next season, and Real Betis are well-placed to compete in European football next year. That could convince the midfielder to stay at the Spanish club.
Tottenham secured a first refusal on the midfielder when they sold Giovani Lo Celso to Betis. The two clubs agreed on a fee of €25 million for the midfielder. It remains to be seen whether the Tottenham can get the deal across the line. They need more quality in the middle of the park, and the United States International would be an excellent acquisition for the reported price.
Tottenham to miss out on Johnny Cardoso?

The report claims that the Spanish outfit were expecting the midfielder to move on in the summer, but the situation has changed now, and he could be like a new signing for them next season. It will be quite disappointing for Tottenham if they miss out on the player. He could’ve added physicality and defensive steel to their midfield.
The player has shown his quality in La Liga, and he has ability to succeed in the Premier League as well. He could have been an important player for Tottenham in the coming seasons.
