Tottenham linked with Man Utd fringe player and it is not Lingard

Tottenham has been linked with a move for Anthony Martial whose place in the Manchester United starting XI is now at risk following the arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Martial has shown that he has the talent to thrive at the top level, but a lack of consistency has been a big issue for him since he joined the Red Devils from AS Monaco for £50m.

Tottenham needs all the good players they can get this summer to break back into the Premier League’s top four.

Star Football reports that they have now positioned themselves to sign Martial if the Frenchman finally leaves Old Trafford.

However, the report says paying the £50m that Manchester United wants might be a problem.

Even if they can stump up that sort of cash, they would still struggle to pay his £250,000 weekly wages.

Daniel Levy probably wouldn’t consider him good enough to break the Tottenham wage structure to make him the best-paid player at Tottenham.

One way that the transfer can still go through is if he is used as a makeweight in United’s bid to sign Harry Kane.

Spurs insists that Kane is staying, but offering them a player that they want and plenty of cash could change that stance.

Would Manu be willing to swap Martial for Joe Hart instead?

No thanks!
If a player can’t motivate himself enough to play for Manchester United, the biggest(?) club in world football, he sure wouldn’t bother for THFC.

This seems to be a rare occasion where I would agree with Levy in that Martial is not worth 50m + 250k per week. To say that Martial has underachieved at Utd is at least fair, but having to work under Jose and OGS isn’t exactly the same as not performing for Pep and Jurgen.

Good player, could be great even…overpaid currently though so that will be that as far as our interest goes

United aren’t going to pay 25% of his salary in the Real Madrid fashion
