Tottenham linked with a surprise move for former PL winner this month

By Saikat -

Former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is keen on a move away from the Saudi Pro League after joining Al Ettifaq at the start of the season.

The 33-year-old has been linked with a move back to the Premier League and a report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea could be potential destinations for the England international.

Tottenham could certainly use more depth in the central midfield but a move for the former Liverpool captain would be an underwhelming one. Henderson showed signs of decline during his final season with Liverpool and Tottenham should look to aim higher.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from the north London club and they will need to bring in adequate replacements. Signing an experienced central midfielder could prove to be a wise decision but Henderson is unlikely to fill the squad with confidence.

In addition to that, he will have to accept a major pay cut in order to join the north London club. He joined the Saudi Arabian club in a mega money deal and Tottenham are unlikely to be able to afford that.

While there is no doubt that Henderson could prove to be a useful acquisition for most clubs in the league, Tottenham will need to aim higher if they wants to compete for major trophies.  They should look to sign a talented young central midfielder with more potential.

As far as Henderson is concerned, it will be interesting to see where he ends up. He could be a useful acquisition for mid table clubs in the Premier League. He has won the league title during his time with Liverpool and his experience could prove to be very handy for most teams.
